Some "experts" should change their job, name, and address and never speak publicly again.
I bought my first PC at the (very-very) end of 1999, I can remember that time perfectly, because all the stands in the stores had the Quake 3 Arena launched, which had literally just been released. (Everything was pirated, so it was free, so when I bought PC I would have a new product right away, yay). I (or rather my father) didn't have much money, but I still had some choice for up-to-date hardware. I had practically decided on the configuration, the last question was the hard drive. The assembly that was being sold had a 20 GB HDD, but there was an option to replace it with a 40. And the seller dissuaded me for a long time, because 20 would definitely be enough for me for the rest of my life, there simply wouldn't be anything to store there! So... my first hard drive being 20 GB (I hope seller doing well now, I wish him good health, we lived in naive times).

I dont even remember what my IBM had, but my dell after it was 80GB and I thought I was set for life so 🤷‍♂️ and that was around the same time your talking. It actually still has that drive in it and it still works (along with 2 more) lol.

These were the times when even dial-up internet was a luxury (for us). So everything seemed plausible. The first two or three years...

When I bought my Pentium 200 MMX, my HDD was 1,7 GB, so... Yeah.

I still have my 33600 modem. That sound when it finally connected after 90 unsuccessful calls - unforgettable.

My IBM is rocking its 56k although I dont have a phone line for it
My first pc was Pentium 100Mhz, 16Mb Ram I don't remember exactly my hdd I think it was 320Mb or so. Windows 95 and Modem Usb robotics 56kbps. Still stuck in my head the 56kbps connection sound lol. That sound was like magic. I still have that modem for collection, ofc I can't use it now

I doubt you had 16mb ram, idk if that number even existed...more likely 1.6mb with 100mhz pentium, after the small MB it went to 1GB chips iirc, I could be wrong here. My dell has a maximum of 4GB (it can use--period) and thats a pentium II dual core...I dont recall in all my collecting ever seeing a 16MB stick of ram, but I was younger then.

Of course it existed. I had 32 Mb on my Pentium 200.

It was 16MB, I could run Quake 1 on it, I searched minimum requirements min 8MB max reccomended 16MB Quake System Requirements | System Requirements

If both of you say it existed, I dont doubt you...I just never seen a 16mb stick myself, i mean it makes sense by general computer standards already anyways.

Do you know why most oddly (not divisble by 2-4) GPUs die on people like the 2070 super? unadmitted fact is that they use 1GB ram chips inside of them rather than 2-4GB, usually a mass amount like all of them or a mix match combo.

I avoided that GPU line as soon as I noticed the uneven number for that reason without even considering why I thought it was a bad idea until later...I always keep computer parts in my mind as a sense of nibbles and bytes because they are. Anything odd is automatically trouble...so 16MB makes perfect sense in reality, I just never seen them myself that I can recall and I have an assortment of old dimm sticks around going back to ddr2 (which means it was likely 1st gen)

I also love it in paragraphs less than a page long...and about subjects that actually matter to me--which this doesnt. I didnt read your original post, open the page, or read his blathering the first time regardless if its true or not...if it feels like an attack I just skip right over it.
No, sometimes you write so much that I learned English because of it 😂
