As a programmer, I just don't find it very wise to always have an internet signal blasting in the sky, any virri or even a bad driver could make it so its insecure and always on, even if you can't see it.

The same arguement could be used for ethernet too tho, right? (for everything you said about wifi)

One difference, ethernet you just pull the plug...an on-board wifi chip is different. Although most BIOS allow you to disable it (usually a function key now), a BIOS is still software and in THIS sense, yes ethernet is just as problematic. Things are only as good as the software and hardware behind them.

Ethernet is hard wired, a hard wire is guaranteed to shut it off, and wifi has a constant airborne signal it sends out to check for the other end .

That negates most cracking programs that are not based on pure brute force, because they rely on the waiting signal from one or both ends.

I have a Wifi chip that goes in my PC if I have the need, but pulling a PCIe Wifi card every ten minutes and pulling a plug are majorly different tasks.

I'm confident enough inside my PC to do it if I felt the need, but all tech aside...I am way too fucking lazy for that

Reality is, if someone wants to get in bad enough, they'll get in...its just much much harder on a landline.
