It can be, it depends. I used to play Mario Kart at a friend's house many years ago, we also played F-Zero and Street Fighter 2 (while staying up all night during summer vacation). Mario Kart is a lot more fun when you play it with a real live person that you get along with, of course your friends can't always be around, and so you play it alone and it's not quite the same (still fun though). This game (just like Mario Kart) has more than 1 mode, some of which you can play with real live people (up to 8 players in total) 24 hours a day, you can play with live players, it's like your friends never go home, you don't have to play against 7 bots, the competition is real, but you can't really talk to them, there's a button to make your character say things though (like "eat my dust"). There's also a neat mode where you can play against a ghost version of yourself from a prior run, I beat my prior run from a different day, and then I beat that run immediately after that. Some more differences are the sheer number of cars and characters that this game has, but most are obtainable for a limited time (you lose them after 7 or 14 days), the permanent unlocks exist but they cost you either money or time to unlock them, however if you took those away, people would stop playing the game and you would have nobody to play with. This game has a much bigger emphasis on using Nitro to boost your character and Drifting around corners without smashing into the barricades/walls, in fact doing so correctly will grant you another Nitro Boost which will help you get ahead of the other players. If I can say one last thing about it, it's that it does Drifting the right way! It's not one of those stupid Drifting-As-A-Gimmick Racing Games where that's the only thing you do the entire time. One downside is that there's too many menus, I collect stuff that I don't know how to use, it tells me to go to a certain shop to use those things and I have no idea where to go, I could try to figure it out, but that would take too much time, and all I want to do is race.
