I meant that it wasn't accessible to newbies unfamiliar with the format. Maybe the one I chose just so happened to be for hardcore VN fans, but on playing it I realized it was more novel, and less game, so I didn't really see the point.
If I am playing a game, I want some gameplay, or interaction. Choose your own adventure books had more choice and player (reader) input. If it was just a novel on PC, with some pics that had a small amount of animation, I'd rather watch anime. If it was just reading, I'd prefer a book.
I just didn't see the point of a book on PC with very limited animation. Books are better. Anime is better. Games are better. This was just a book with a tiny amount of animation.
You hit a bad one then...although theres no major gameplay in ours (which is why I wanted to add CastleVaginia as a mini game) this time around, alot of them these days have added money, love points for choices, free roaming the maps in 3rd person by arrows, hell some have even mixed in full out RPG elements and such.
Ours certainly won't be a kinetic novel, which is one without choices, hell theres already just a choice between left or right as a crossroad for really nothing more than a different set of scenes, I didnt add a walkthrough in my options screen to tell people to keep clicking
The option under it I actually changed to Kinetic Mode because it automatically chooses the best option for people who do want to just read the story and not play twice...without showing a menu at all. Its not how its designed to be played but different people like different things and i'm dropping every way for them to modify it to their liking as I can think of for that reason...personally I don't like to guess and roll back (an option in these game to reverse to a certain point and change choices) so if I'm always going to pick the best option and I can see it...why do I need to click on it and mkve my cursor across the screen to accomplish the same thing? But thats me and my AHDH, I don't play the best steam games twice and I hate missing shit lol.
This game i'll probably play 16 times in every way possible, one because I helped make it, but also because I need to test the hell out of it...I'm not gonna let the users take the hit and lose their saves or something if I can avoid it, and I don't believe in releasing ANYTHING without thoroughly testing it.
This was planned by ivo before I even knew about it, so I refuse to step on his idea or creative freedom in the main game in any way shape or form...although I brought it up that people would like some sort of constant interaction like that...its not what he had planned and he had the story laid out almost entirely in his head already.
Like I said...we intend to make this a thing if it works out well, full time if the money works out too...I'd like to do one more fancy the next time around and I can also write really good if I try...but this one was his, and even as someone who doesnt usually like these, I admit its getting my interest story wise.more and more each time (still adding a game somewhere lol--easter egg)...so i'll be real, as much as I'd like everyone to try it out, ours may be another shot toward what you don't want and I wouldn't recommend it to you because i'd hate to ruin the concept on you for life. There will be animations, almost every line of text or every few changes the pictures at least...but there are other far more interactive than ours with much more videos and such.
They probably also have a team working on them and started more than two years ago and not two months in learning every aspect from scratch...but its the truth nonetheless.
I'd say if you want something with smut to give Eternium a try, we blth agree thats good and has nice visuals, although made in honey select and not daz so they're not nearly as high end as other games...another one I enjoyed was Corrupted Kingdoms...straight for the gameplay there (and the dev is hilarious) but the smut can get a bit weird.
Lust Theory has some of the best of both worlds I mentioned, but they lack a truly good story honestly and rely on being raunchy more than that.
