The funny thing about Shaggy and Scrappy is that their names are descriptive. Shaggy meaning scruffy and unkempt. Scrappy meaning someone that likes to get into fights. So calling Shaggy Sammy makes no sense, but French, so meh.

Yes, shagging means sex, but more British than American. You don't really associate Shaggy the character with sex. Do you know what shagpile carpet is? Well, that was popular at the time too. As were vans. Like the kind that had free candy, and that the Scooby crew drove.
