Posting in a different (random) thread might exclude a lot of the regulars. I imagine most of the Lair denizens only check this thread and maybe a few others. How many are even aware that RETRO has a GIVEAWAYS ARENA thread?

Not announcing the games in advance would mitigate the problem of people trying to snipe the best games and bickering about who was first but might lead to other issues. For example, people might make impulsive choices just to get in line early and later try to modify their choices for any number of reasons. It could cause more chaos and the pressure to be early will still exist.

I think a raffle is the best format both for the giveaway creator and for the participants. It gets rid of the "early bird" factor and leaves no room for debate. How would you raffle off so many games? Here's one idea:

1. Creator posts a list of the available games.
2. Users have 24 hours to submit a ranked list of their top 10 choices (or up to 10).
3. Once the submission period is closed, the creator distributes the games based on this procedure.
  • Look at all the games ranked #1. If a game is only in one person's #1 slot, they get it. If not, do a mini raffle between the tied users.
  • Delete the list of anyone who won a game.
  • Repeat the above steps for ranks #2 through #10
4. Optionally, compensate those who didn't win anything. Maybe they get a pick from a special pool of extra games or, if you want to make things more complicated, they could receive "tickets" that increase their odds of winning future raffles.

Someone with scripting experience could easily automate step 3.

Just my 2 cents. I'd hate to see these giveaways die just because of the inappropriate behavior of a few.
Another idea, which I think would work well, but would be much slower, is to do it sort of like a fantasy sports draft. The contents of the giveaway can be posted ahead of time (so people know what they're getting themselves into), and then they can enter by reacting to the post. After a certain amount of time the entrants will be set. Then randomize them into a "draft" order. The first person gets first choice of game, and so on. Users have a set amount of time (24 hours?) to make their pick, otherwise they are skipped. If there is nothing left that you want when it comes to your turn (or at any time really), you can just bow out of the rest of the giveaway to speed things up.

Obviously if it's a huge giveaway and everyone takes near maximum time to make their choice, it would take forever. But I feel that the regulars are around often enough that it wouldn't be too bad. But idk, just an idea. Tough to see how it would really work out until someone tries it. 🤷‍♂️

People love excitment, people love action people love to get a good game out of the raffle. People love to see whats coming and that makes this area at those days to maximum capacity and popularity.

I hope some of you guys present your own ideas at a giveaway, so we can see a live sample If its moving us to the right direction. Maybe If everything is hidden, No one knows whats coming and giveaway can happen sudden is good., but I dont know, so far when you see those pictures and prepare for it. Was it fun or not ? Its like steam saying a game will be released today and you have waited for 1 week or longer for it. Flames are burninnn :)

reality is we will do giveaways, sharing is forever and holiday season is coming, reality is not all of us relaxed persons ofc like everyone else I want to protect my merchandise too. And contributors giveaway is not the best idea because its new at here and more contributors attends unfortunately it brings paranoia within too. So next contributions giveaway If it exists will be with 1 - 2 persons like pos and retro etc. Easy to control more relaxed. I am not after any of your keys unless I join one of your raffles.

Greed that we cant control. You see a AAA game and its not easy to see yourself in a looser position, but one person wins. Can we be happy about that person ? Yeah I wish.

and than there is stupidty, because of advertisement those pics, those dates when that moment comes as a giveaway started. To do it with broken fingers is impossible. Just like greed, I should control myself and do it at a better condition at a good day. My stupidty is I cant stop sharing. (Show Must Go On) When that giveaway started I was at page 1 and with pm waiting times at half hour I was at page 2 but when I am at page 2 you guys were at page 8.

Almost 6 pages passed and miscommunication gets worse. That moment I felt good I give 60 keys out but failed so bad and cant finish it with 8 full pages passed, not readed or cant be caught. I can not concentrate at a giveaway with two things combines together. Am I going to serve or explain this and that and follow all the drama at a on going giveaway at the same time.

I think for most of us (even those who didnt request any games) yes, it was fun. As far as I'm concerned any giveaway here has been fun. It's always nice to see a game key go to a good home. I know I've personally gotten plenty of amazing games I'd never have heard of had it not been for being part of The Lair.

Take as much time as nature needs for you to heal. As heroic as you were, trying to keep up with requests, despite your broken bones, I'm sure they'll heal faster if you rest them. 🥰
