You don't get it...
'same treatment' = same graphics, same dynamics, not the ACTUALLY SAME TREATMENT.

I love classic jrpgs not 'cause of gameplay, dummy...
TBCH, ALL jrpgs has THE SAME gameplay (yeah, devil's only in the details).
Story holds the game. Characters hold the story. Gameplay is a secondary thing 'cause YOU'VE SEEN IT A MILLION TIMES ALREADY, at the very least.
That's my, I guess, very unpopular opinion))

Characters are also in the summoning (think espers), the chocobo ranch to reach the Knights of the round was an integral story feature IMO that also makes the Gold Saucer more than a battle field for OmniSlash and a date scene etc, etc.

You see my point 🤷‍♂️

EDIT:

On that note I haven't reached it yet, but getting OmniSlash must be a f'kin nightmare with that battle system...can you imagine commands and magic disabled while cloud is a wuss? :ROFLMAO:

I think the problem is you're trying to play the Remake just like you've played the original, and those games are not the same.
Of course it wouldn't work like the original. The thing is IT SHOULDN'T. It's a remake, not a remaster. It's not worse, it's different.
Of course, I haven't played it yet, so who am I to say such things...?))

it's always will be in beta testing, the key will not be taken away 'cause it was given to many of us by the developer/publisher (?) itself, Digital Eclipse, through the emails))
