I glanced at Discord. Honestly, I don't see what's the point. To run away from the users complaining how the whole IG forum, IG store and IG trading and giveaway pages have more bugs than actual working code?

The real difference for me is the notifications and easier chat

IMHO, I think Discord is really good for smaller groups of people - up to 20 or 30 at most. So, for MMO guilds and clans, friends sharing the same interests... It's absolutely impractical for companies like IG, although all of them have it. It's more like "Hey, Discord is the new MySpace! We must have it!" type of reasoning.
They're looking at forums as some kind of antediluvial monstrosity without understanding the fact that it's not about how cool something is but how useful it is. And forums are MUCH more useful for any company directly dealing with their customers.
