Gather up, boys and gals so that grandpa tells you another "Once upon a time in a penny arcade..."!
Did you know that things like wondering what would XXX version of Lara Croft or Solid Snake look like was something people (OK, mostly kids and teens) were very eager to know even before the internet?

Or, in this case, it was Mario and Princess Peach - although, they didn't have those names yet, at least not in the Donkey Kong game. I was growing up in times when arcades were one of the most popular places for kids and young people - even for some older guys. So, being a bunch of 10 years and 11 years old boys and started noticing differences between boys and girls - we were in awe when we learned "the greatest secret of all time": apparently, if you beat all the levels of Donkey Kong, you'll see Mario and Princess nude, making love.

And it's true! Those older boys, 17 or 18 yo, told us - I mean, why would they lie to us, right? The problem was: Donkey Kong isn't an easy game. You can beat the first level, but when you come to conveyer belts and other levels, it's really hard to beat it. So, obviously, we should gather our resources (allowance money) and give all to the best among us.

I sort of gave up and was just tagging along because I didn't really care about Mario and Princess and was madly in love with that sweet blonde with pigtails from my neighbourhood - the same one I'll help 5 or 6 years later to play Amidar - and, most importantly, I sucked at Donkey Kong.

They really collected money and, while those 18 yo were probably laughing somewhere behind them, they "trained" for a month - and they beat the game... Well, not really beat it because it started again from level 1.

Yeah, we were angry at those "old men" (because to 10 yo kids everyone above 15 is almost ready for retirement) but we were again in awe when they explained to us that we need to beat it 10 times, from level 1 to the new level 1, in one playthrough.

Well, many piggy banks were smashed that summer but we never saw that fabled sex scene... At least I was better luck because I shared my first kiss that summer with my sweet pigtailed neighbour.
Man, I love such urban legends! And you sure a great storyteller too. We haven't any legend like this, because arcade machines in the Soveit era wasn't as good looking as Donkey Kong (lol), but we've had those handheld games:

Which, as I found out later, was a shameless clone of Nintendo Game&Watch. And there was a legend that if you will score 1000 points - it will show a cartoon! I never believed that, because when you first turn it on it blinks with all possible pictures on it:

But many boys and girls believed in that and tried hard to score

Many video games - especially in the 80s and 90s had some cool (made-up) stories. And I honestly thought this was Game&Watch before I noticed a wolf from Nu, Pogodi! And I wouldn't say it's bad looking, because it's the same as Nintendo's handheld Donkey Kong - although, Donkey Kong had two screens. You would start in the lower screen and you'd go to the upper screen, grab one of the hooks that held Kong and then start all over again until you remove all 4 hooks and Kong would fall down. So, it didn't have any other levels.

And that particular game you posted - I'm not sure if the original was Nintendo's but I remember playing the colour version and I think it was either Mickey Mouse or Donald duck catching those eggs.

Obviously, growing up in Yugoslavia, we had the best of both worlds, both from the West and from the East.

I really doubt it's fixed. Yesterday, I needed to change my language to Czech to work!
