Wait....so even if I'd had this game on Steam I'd need to be connected to the internet even though it's NOT a multiplayer game?
Thats what I thought, but no...I just had to get past the galactically ugly EULA and privacy policy before it would allow offline play.

Eula Law  - Are we in a childrens cartoon?

chrome_screenshot_1689094450787.png

I was trying to avoid the opening cutscene as online playtime because the reviews say the game was more like a great 20hr movie (you know how those openings drag on lol) than a game...I'm trying to see if thats the case before my 2hr refund period is over, and if I enjoy it obviously.

Steam doesn't log offline playtime correctly where its user visible, so it gives you a "little" wiggle room on the refund since the correct time won't show up in the client and you can blah blah BS during your request if your over a tad.

I feel the need to add that they do actually log the playtime correctly many different ways, you just can't see it, so the idea likely running through idiotic minds right now will just get you banned or worse, it doesn't update the online playtime because thats what it is--online playtime, and its a choice on the part of valve, not a mistake. Word to the wise ;)
not new...
No, its not...but this isn't the case this time.

I own FF7R on Epic...literally the only game I kept through that launcher that required an internet connection during loading (note to Dante), I can pull my internet anytime after the game loads and its never given me an issue, but for the DRM it was absolutely required the last time I bothered to play no matter what options or features I tried.

I heard at some point after the Steam release they changed that but I haven't confirmed the theory either way. If I knew it would be released on Steam, I would have refunded it back then.

I had the same issue with GTA V even though offline play was allowed, between Steam and the Rockstar launcher which is automatic just like EA, it couldn't be loaded offline...so I refunded it. I could have just bought it through Rockstar and I would have been able to play offline, Steam actually screwed that one up heh.
It is surprising that EA always gets the most hate for its own launcher, although it always starts in the background before the game starts and then turns off by itself.
On that note I didn't have trouble with anything from EA purchased on Steam, just EA titles running THROUGH Steam, which I was finally able to fix by just launching the EA App with Steam and then launching my games...this didn't work at first, its been fixed. Got my Racing games back 🥳
The most I suffered once was with the launcher from Ubisoft, which required a key from me to launch a game purchased on Steam. And I didn't know that it was hidden somewhere in the game launch parameters, and I had to copy it from there :)
I've never had that issue, and I own quite a few Ubisoft games on Steam myself....the one that was a nightmare for me was Two Worlds II and it didn't have a launcher. Since I had the main game AND a DLC from the start, it refused to launch with the game key because it needed both, I had to register the main game through the registry using a hack

Head...ache.

That's what you doing right now : going where people interested in giveaways are, and putting your link. But, are you aware of the existence of Steamgifts ? It does exactly what you do already.
With better games :ROFLMAO:

I'd sooner go hijack the guy on the riding mower outside my window. Certain sims, maybe...that one. Good luck. Better off on FB with that.

I'm not a huge ubisoft fan in general so i only have all the Princes of Persia and Cold Fear so i suspect it was the last Prince of Persia that gave me a headache with the key.

lol my computer barelly breaths at 1080p my screen is 27pol, most of the " heavy" games i need to change resolutions or configs XD, glad that i can run them, like gow, but when it comes to the last of us and control...
My processor sometimes doesn't like me very much trying to keep up with my 3090 on an old mobo, but its never failed me...mind you I don't actually play at those settings normally, I shut off Motion Blue automatically as well as DOF, I mean whats the point of moving at 144hz and having the game screen tear and blur itself?

I also usually tone down reflections and shadows depending on the type of game (so much for DLSS), I just like to see how badly a game is optimized during the first few runs...that game is optimized extremely well, not only did it put most of the load on my GPU (where a graphic intense game belongs), but it still didn't break any new global temperature records while doing it

There was a side point to my post due to comments from the goof troop, but I generally do that every new heavy hitting game I test just to see how well the code was written...and the point is usually to tell others how it would run on less powerful systems--on top of seeing if my processor can still handle the new releases fine.

I actually haven't tried either of those games, although Control has my interest (as well as being free on Epic), maybe i'll give it a run to see how it holds up ;)

I actually bought the whole collection on Fanatical for change recently and then realized I had to link my Ubisoft account to activate them...back they went

Good games though, my second favorite series from Ubisoft, which if I'm not mistaken kind of led up to the existence of Creed and vice-versa with the latest releases.

You know they just released (or are releasing) a new Prince Of Persia right? I caught it while watching the Assassins Creed Mirage trailer.

EDIT:

Supposedly Jan, 2024. Seems a Sands Of Time Remake is in the works as well.

Only for Forgotten Sands launcher is needed, all the rest are more like abandonware.

Not yet released, but (as far as i remember) this year. I saw several videos in which some dudes told how bad things are, but it seems that people do not understand what Prince of Persia is at all and played at best starting with Warrior Within, so I actually liked the announcement.

Tell that to fanatical and Ubisoft, they don't give you an actual key 😒

I'm with you there...I played the very original on PC (oh the pain and deaths I suffered lol), and liked Sands Of Time the most out of all of them. I'd love to see a remake for that.

I never had an issue with Ubisofts launcher, except for the resource theft and the utter lack of controller support while doing it, but its bearable...this is one place where EA shines, you can barely even notice the launcher is there...doesn't help that they have totally shot controller support as well, but at least the launcher doesn't degrade the gameplay while doing nothing useful

EDIT:

I can't speak for the rest of the known world, but this is basically where my love of Steam comes from...the UI was better, but its losing that slowly but surely. The controller support is where its at.

my processor i saw only two times getting to 100% of use XD, one of them was with control and another was with TLOU, if the game is optmized it will prob run good in my computer, if not hardly...

spider man remaster run smoothly without much changes, but even with it sometimes while jumping or fast scenes it gets laggy XXD, cutcenes are even heavier than playing in the future i pretend to upgrade my r5 2400g to a r5 5600g

aboutt temperature haven't measured recently, but when measuring it never reached more than 65 degrees celsius

control looks amazing, if it wasn't bad optimized id glad play it... if i remember i have it on gog complete that prime gave
