This is FINAL FANTASY RENAISSANCE (PC), It adds in a TON of new things to the classic Final Fantasy 1 NES version but to play on PC. This is not a ROM hack either, they actually recreated the entire game from the ground up using Unity. Lots of bug fixes, new abilities, and a bunch of all new jobs to play as!! Final Fantasy Renaissance (FFR) is intended as a tribute to the original Final Fantasy game released by Square on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990 (US version). There are currently two distinct game modes in FFR. “Classic Mode” and “Renaissance Mode”.

Classic Mode is, first and foremost, intended as a faithful recreation of the original Final Fantasy game…but…with all known bugs fixed (such as spells that never worked before or NPC characters who are invisible or can move through walls). A full list of all enhancements made to the original game will be provided at a later date.

Renaissance Mode is, essentially, the same core game as Classic Mode, but with a number of new job classes available to choose from, as well as new game mechanics added (such as job-specific abilities usable inside and outside of combat). The new job classes added are all based on job classes introduced in later games in the Final Fantasy series (such as Evoker, Lancer, Blue Mage, and many more…).

Multi-Rom

Being real...I lived through that nightmare on the NES to the very end and I'll take a HARD PASS on playing it again regardless what they added...they "should" have added unlimited weapon and spell usage if they actually played the original :ROFLMAO:

Regardless, as much as I love the series...thats the last one I'd ever want to relive, even if I was still fortunate enough to have the NES around I wouldn't be playing THAT abomination

Talk about grinding your teeth down heh.

EDIT:

Great idea, bad choice of base game. Anyone who played that still has ogre issues and likely never wants to see it again.

Ok. Most prefer to replay Final Fantasy 10 and 7 (or their other Dragon Quest 8 on PS2), or Final Fantasy 4, 5, 6 for the classic snes era. Some add 8,9,12 and then 1-3. I didnt mind replaying 1 on GBA/PSP versions far more over the NES personally, but yes very old school. With the official pc final fantasy 1 you can mod it to have the 8 bit nes graphics, or difficulty of nes/psx version or features of GBA/PSP etc so you can play it however you prefer if someone wanted to play again that didnt have say the gba or psp version. This new one I mentioned is free and some may never have played it at all, however it adds quite a lot that didnt exist back in FF1 if you play the Renaissance Mode and fixes issues that were in all the original versions. The reviews on steam would suggest its popular still and a good game by a large number of people.

There are so many games most have no reason to replay such old games again, but some of us enjoy remakes especially if they add new things to the game you enjoyed in the past. Games like Sea of Stars, Chained Echoes, 8-bit adventures 1 or 2 and similar all try to capture some of that but try to avoid some of the things people didnt like so maybe those would be better. Square is still releasing some most have never played like Live a Live. Everyone likes different games...Just remember, we are all unique...just like everybody else :D
And I wont mention the 80% hentai in certain game libraries....;)

I just saw they remade the wizardry Apple II version from 1981 for example. Clearly thats a niche group who wants to replay ultimas from gog, and wizardrys and the bards tale from the early 80s, but they were classics in their time. I normally prefer to talk about recent games, just happened to be also playing some oldies on the side recently.

Chained Echoes
Is this the one with wedge and biggs as literal starting characters or am I confusing that with another? The one i'm thinking of was a damned good game, both are on my wishlist but I had a demo and it seems this no longer does.

Mention it all day long...but I stopped adding it to my library and just went to the zone and bombed my virus drive with it instead :ROFLMAO:

I'm an old single guy, I have no issue with my like for hentai and porn games, nor do I even attempt hide the fact
Another game I enjoyed...your taking my commentary to another level yourself. Did you remake final fantasy? if so 👏 bravo, something I've always wanted to do myself...but I would have done like I mentioned earlier and did more along the lines of FFVI (japan--3 for snes), I thoroughly enjoyed FFIV 3D remake (FF2 snes) and I have all of them on GBA myself, as well as few NDS cartridges before my ROM hack comes into play.

I was trying to make a similar game myself most of my life but couldn't find a dedicated enough artist to take the role since I can't draw for shit.

If you look back far enough in these forums i'm sure you'll find my one screen NDS game running on the actual system (so 2 screens lol), your firing your cannon at yourself in self defense mode, I was stating MY lack of desire to play the game again...I never said I spoke for the rest of humanity on the subject.

Live a Live
Still have the demo and haven't really given this a shot, maybe I did and it was too much at the time...I get bored easily, but I still have the demo so that says something. along with Octopath Traveler II which is my die hard wishlist of games right now, I believe I could actually play that game in its entirety, not something I can say for many titles.

But I have most of SE's modern and remake JRPGs on my wishlist along with Bandai and Xseed, I love the genre and I love the classics...just not that PARTICULAR classic, it was my 3rd Final Fantasy in reality, I bought it after playing 2/3 for SNES for a dead system just to play it

I'm still not too keen on the FF7 remake, I think it warped the originals gameplay mechanics way to far to live up to the classic title, thats more me than the picture your getting here.

I'm also the first person in line to see a new Destiny of an emperor RPG like 40yrs down the road and even bought the total war game based on the han dynasty JUST to see if it actually was anything like it, along with multiple dynasty warriors...all digital ones refunded although I still have a few PS dynasty warriors around.

Two recurring characters, Biggs and Wedge have been appearing in different Final Fantasy games since Final Fantasy 6 was released in 1994, being a reference to Luke Skywalker’s Red Squadron Wingmates in Star Wars, Biggs Darklighter and Wedge Antilles so must be thinking of that. Chained Echoes is here and like Sea of Stars are more like the FF 4-6, Chrono Trigger era. Save 20% on Chained Echoes on Steam The FF 10+7 and Dragon Quest 8 are more modern than what you get in the first final fantasy obviously.

I'm an old single guy, I have no issue with my like for hentai and porn games, nor do I even attempt hide the fact
You know I was joking right ;)

something I've always wanted to do myself...but I would have done like I mentioned earlier and did more along the lines of FFVI (japan--3 for snes), I thoroughly enjoyed FFIV 3D remake (FF2 snes) and I have all of them on GBA myself, as well as few NDS cartridges before my ROM hack comes into play.

Yes it sounds like we enjoy similar titles actually. I think most people have had good luck with RPG Maker programs as it makes the process easy including graphics so long as your not trying to do something like that guy and remake a game from scratch like that in unity which is very impressive. However because its easy there is so many rpg maker games now and most dont put the full effort in, its not recommended for commercial release unless you've had great experience making good ones in past, and instead maybe just for fun to make your own classic rpg with a few other people, graphics can outsource or even AI but the programs come with graphic sets.

Ultima Another game I enjoyed...your taking my commentary to another level yourself. But I have most of SE's modern and remake JRPGs on my wishlist along with Bandai and Xseed, I love the genre and I love the classics...just not that PARTICULAR classic, it was my 3rd Final Fantasy in reality, I bought it after playing 2/3 for SNES for a dead system just to play it
I was agreeing with you in the commentary if you read the first part again. I just mention some of the ones people may prefer like FF 10+7 and Dragon Quest 8. Or the FF 4,5,6 over 1,2,3 and that reviews say many are still enjoying them. I was reordering my backlog and saw the final fantasy 1 with added features not in the original vs playing the pc enhanced one and saw that it was free so thought to mention it, maybe someone here might like to try.

Live a Live.
The square enix titles are generally higher cost even on sale. Those are all quality titles. You might know about this site HowLongToBeat.com | Game Lengths, Backlogs and more! which can at least tell you how long a game is, and completionist times for those out there who do have longer attention and therefore also like to try to do everything in a game.

Ya I know the backstory, it was this game I was thinking of...

I had to hunt this down, I'd suggest trying the demo ;)

Also check this one out for really retro but still good.

Dragon Quest 8.
Another great series...I actually burnt a rom for PS1 to play DQ VIII after playing XI
The square enix titles are generally higher cost even on sale.
No cost too high for an RPG that kept me wrapped up in the demo for two solid hours straight, ADHD is a prick sometimes 😅

I barely give that attention to much more recognized titles, something about the mechanics put Octopath Traveler a cut above most and I've only played one scenario in it.

EDIT:

*I'm not going to get into a debate about if there was a debate, so we'll just go with I misread
