I don't like too when games are very grindy, but if you don't feel too much the grind it means it is a nice game. I like healer characters, they have a great role to keep team alive!
Ya, I just want to continue...this game requires 2 playthroughs minimum for the trophies regardless, one using each MC so I can always do them on a second run...or not at all if I don't feel like it.

The thing with Star Ocean though is that the grind always has a purpose...not only are you completing the requirements, but item creation using the items you grind for gives you the best shit in the game, which is a much better reason than a trophy lol.

And the quests usually unlock hidden events and extra equipment too, which is why is a staple in the series, because they realize giving you a reason besides JUST grinding makes it actually worth it and enjoyable.

I can't even tell you how many times I dashed across the land in SO The Last Hope just hitting gathering points and mining points (also a thing in this series)...and because I had a real reason to do it besides a trophy, I still enjoyed it.

One of the main reasons I went and played all the old ones was the Item Creation itself...and its usually a 'try and reset' factor like Persona when you try to create the perfect monster, it gets old after awhile but it also has a goal worth doing it for.

Much different than like NIS grinding games where the only point is to hit lv 9,999 for no apparent reason because nothing could even challenge you at level 27

Star Ocean The last hope has one of the most even super bosses post game you'll ever come across...who you fight after climbing a 20 level random generation tower of death with a limit of 20 for every healing item you can get, which is like 60 revival items tops.

She did something like Scream and it covered 3/4 of the battle area...killing anything it touched instantly (literally, not damage--instant death), but that was a fucking challenge.

I really can't recommend many games more highly than I do this one...even if you ignore the grind, the story and sub events are some of the best you'll ever watch. I personally love the cat-girl in this one, ngl :ROFLMAO:

Fast question: Are driving🚗/flying🛩️ games playable/enjoyable with controller🎮? WhatNitrous? Anybody?
Fast Answer, it depends on the game. Need For Speed and origin based Racers I have found to be the best with controllers personally, I don't recommend Sim-Racers.

Even PAM and Flatout from IG are decent with a controller, The Grid series, The earlier Dirt games like Dirt 2 and Dirt showdown are good, Ridge Racer, Hot Wheels, just to name a few.

Stay away from Asseto Corsa and Automobilista style games IMO (sims) unless your really going to dedicate yourself to setting up a comfortable configuration across each one.

EDIT:

If you claimed Need For Speed Hot Pursuit when it was free like twice...I suggest trying that. If you don't enjoy it, you won't want to race with a controller. Even Need For Speed: Heat is a good test...just ignore the open world aspect lol.

Unless you edited your post, I missed the flying games...honestly not my area anyways. No comment in either case. I generally stick to retro flight games and those you can obviously play with a controller if its supported by the game.

Symphony Of War: The Nephilim Saga - 1.11GB

This game is a great example of old school Tactic RPGs like Shining Force in my personal opinion, SNES/Genesis style graphics and all except for the speech bubbles being much higher quality.

Its extremely light on resources and space requirements due to the graphical facts I would assume, I even have the legends DLC installed and included in the total game size.

I had no issues with controller support even though mouse/kb is clearly supported since you can optionally shut off mouse movement.

You start the game with it asking you questions to build your character, which I assume has an affect on your starting stats, I ended up with a Knight/Paladine style character by answering honestly 🤷‍♂️ lol...which allowed me to attack and heal, and my partner ended up being a fucking immortal tank who barely takes damage...pretty decent build so I have no intention of trying multiple choices as of now.

I went through the entire first battle and hit a town where you can interact with characters, shop, upgrade, etc...the one difference from older titles seeming to be there are multiple class upgrades for each party member based on their type, all of the troops I have so far (4 units, 2 joined on the first map in an ambush style), are all unique storyline characters.

The option of permadeath (on/off) for non-story characters tell me you can also acquire generic style troops throughout the game, although idk if its necessary yet...I did fine in the first battle without them.

Considering how many people here seem to like the old Genesis style tactic games like I do, I figured this was worth taking a time out to mention...its almost an exact replica of those days with better graphics and some additional features. I'd suggest picking it up from the Fanatical Killer Bundle or a shop while the price drops due to that bundle if your one of those people.

ADHD Approved

To me if the game has any vehicles I'd rather play with a controller. It just... feels better? idk no real explanation. Don't play a lotta sim racers, but its a lot more accurate using keyboard. but if you want maximum enjoyment, use a controller - especially in open world games.

So i've been playing alot of Star Ocean: The Divine Force, and aside from the grind for bestiary completion being nearly as bad...if not worse than SO: The Last Hope I'm actually really enjoying it.
with my new eye candy

Actual gameplay fact...this is your first healer and shes a fucking interesting one, one of the most controversial characters in the game.

She CANNOT target enemies at all, or put offensive tactics in her combos whatsoever.

She has a few survival moves like shoving whatever is directly ahead of her (be it you or an enemy haha) flying, hitting everything in a radius around her, etc. etc.

She is a pure healing and 'buffing' character (couldn't help myself ), the only time she can even use offensive items is during a complete pause called stop mode mid battle while you control her.

She has some of the best healing tactics I have ever seen in a game though, where she can teleport your party safely around her, revive anyone in the circle, and / or heal them all too, as well as setup a timed healing spell like a bomb before gathering all characters around her.

Completely unique...and if your not controlling her--probably horrible. But interesting none the less.

I figured I'd add some actually info to by porno film at least :ROFLMAO:

I'm sure later in the game there are easier and more useful methods of getting item drops, and at least they don't have battle trophies (god the horror) so i'll live.

The gameplay itself and the mechanics I complained about earlier I'm actually beginning to enjoy (blindsides still kind of suck compared to The Last Hope--but they work, usually)

Its too grindy for my taste achievement wise, but SO is kind of known for being that way...and I'm enjoying it enough not to care so far at least.

This is one game I will finish come hell or high water eventually because I have beat every other one in the series except Star Ocean 5 since I don't own a PS4 (can't get an emulator to run it, I've tried like hell), I actually almost bought the console just for that one game.

EDIT:

Tbc when I finally meet welch and open item creation....by far one of the best features in the entire series and another one its known for.

Philosopher stones are a trademark in this game...and welch is kind of like Cid from Final Fantasy, just better looking lol.
There was that urban legend about how the FBI put on the list anyone who would borrow The Catcher in the Rye in the library. Maybe they're doing the same thing now for anyone who's playing games with suggestive underage anime characters...
