I don't know if it's a bug, i saw that too, but as a workaround you can change another artifact with the one you wanted to put back, and then change the one you couldn't with the one you just dropped.

It might not be cleared, so here is an example : you had ABC yesterday and changed C for D. So ABD today. After 24h D doesn't wan't to be changed. So put C in the place of B, than you can put B back in the place of D.

That's a known bug. You can do a workaround. Check the address bar - it'll probably start with na.alienwarearena...
Change that "na" into "eu" and refresh the page. Try changing the artefacts now.

Another way, which has always worked for me so far, is to just try to upgrade any artifact that is already at max level or an artifact that you don't have enough fragments to upgrade. It will error out and say that the artifact couldn't be upgraded, but it will also reset any "stuck" artifacts.

This is what I do too. It has the advantage of being able to be done with just the mouse, so if you're too lazy to reach the keyboard, it's the fastest way.

In the past I think it was only the first chapter, now all three are free

In my case I had to delete the game since I only had the first chapter from when it was released in 2020
