Due to licensing issues, and lack of widespread popularity, the Battletech cartoon was never sold on DVD, and has never been released in any quality above really terrible VHS capture. It was before digital TV, and so was never pirated properly. Maybe one day AI can reconstruct it?

A good enough algorithm could likely already repair the VHS flaws, if you asked AI to reproduce it i'm sure you wouldn't get the same product in some form or another...at least as of what it can do at the moment. You would likely end up with another random show or a rock concert mid episode when it tweaked out and decided it knew better than the creator

DVDFab has an "AI" quality upscaler...and if its video shrinking algorithm during the copy process is any indication it may very well do a decent job, if not a perfect one. Even though the programs older version can be jacked into using the newer codecs for free I actually purchased a lifetime for the DVD copy software...its just always worked that good...I've never had the patience to upscale a good length of video to be sure when I had free trials of it because its limited by how many times you start the process and I usually went overboard with the quality to the point it would have took forever.

No need to tell me, I lived it. I still likely have some old video of that quality even on PC somewhere...a friend of mine actually still has VHS tapes and a VCR although they're mostly wrestling and not anime heh.
