I got one once, it said if you did it, stop doing it, if you didn't do it, contact us. The funny thing was, I wasn't sharing anything at all. I was using a program that faked the upload slots. I never bothered explaining any of this to them though.

It's all just an attempt for them to get money. I've never received another notice, and never had any money taken or internet canceled either. They don't pass those on anymore, and all they do is use DNS that blocks certain sites, easily bypassable by changing DNS to Google, Cloudflare etc.

Idk what you mean for them to get money, thats actually legit (usually) and they can't ask you for money lol. Its them covering their ass against getting sued by someone who could get money from them...but thats different than what you implied. Basically they can't pretend to allow it, but really its them losing money if they enforce it so its highly unlikely unless your into some serious sharing. I got one just for downloading without sharing anything (knowing it was illegal to share more than to download), probably to the users disappointment, but I was usually grabbing lne specific thing and formatting immediately after so I didnt care.

They want to know who you are, so they can ask you for money, or threaten to sue you. If you settle, no court. They being the lawyers.

They, the ISPs, only pass them on as the law requires. Where I am, they don't have to anymore, so they don't. The DNS poisoning was considered enough.
