And you now have a Steam Deck Wannabe PC, more expensive for less power, running Linux, without the ability to truly upgrade or do repairs.

I understand mobile gaming is your way of life, but i'm a desktop person.
I agree with you, it's a handheld... Not as good as a PC, and you need to take more care of it than a regular PC. I see it more as a way to sit on your bed and relax, play some games. And yeah, as you said, the only upgrade you can do is an SSD, plus buying the SD will require you to buy a screen protector not to scratch it, and a skin not to scratch the SD because you won't only use it docked for sure.

If you intend buying it to play new games you will probably play them on low settings

I don't disagree its a nice handheld, but my back injury doesnt allow me to enjoy them...and as we both just said, its an expensive portable mini computer like all consoles...just more issues unless you actually want a console to use as a console.

Sad but true...unfortunately we accept what we have if the next one is worse...Windows 11 won't have the same outcome, I see a repeat of Windows 7 or worse considering the hardware requirements.
They keep messing with users, and they will regret it when users refuse to use it and move to a different OS. They might own the market in this sector, but eventually, some company will come and take advantage of their mistakes and mistreatment of customers.

Honestly I'm in literal awe that this hasn't already happened...you can scrap together almost any interface that was able to emulate the files systems used by windows (unless they somehow copyrighted exe file format--just checked, nobody does lol) and add a user friendly click and play OS with old style freedoms that Microsoft keeps locking down...and the OS would surely get noticed.

I think the problem is that most people in this day and age can't create the bottom layer without using something like a linux kernal...and those are required to be open source--which negates the concept of making a truly dedicated OS such as Windows.

And the more time passes...the more that knowledge gets buried under the modern programming languages, most of which are made by Microsoft or clones of the ones that are--someone needs to go back to the roots of the code and start at the bottom, thats a serious task...I know enough to know that it would be a massive endeavor and Microsoft would do everything in its money stuffed power to crush the idea before it caught on.
