That said, one review type I do pay attention to is anime reviews, and to a lesser extent, professional game journalism. While generally if something is rated poorly, there's usually a reason, some of those reasons have nothing to do whether or not I would enjoy it.

I remember magazines raving about some things, that I later played, and thought were absolute trash. The same is true in reverse for many anime shows. I've noticed kiddy stuff gets highly upvoted on MAL. Anything in 3D gets heavily downvoted. There's also a lot of hate for smut, which brings me to one possible reason for the downvote.

Some people just try something out, find it doesn't meet their expectations, and downvote without giving it any more thought than that.

Well they'd be pretty hypocritical to downvote it for the smut factor if they were able to read :LOL:

But like you said some people are just lazy idiots or pricks at the root of it all and waste their time just to damage others. Big surprise on the internet 🙄

There are other possibilities like competitive devs and they're loyal butt monkeys (this is sadly the most likely scenario), personally I never bother unless I have something good to say about a game and I'd be annoyed if someone did it to another dev for me tbh.

There's also the reddit mentality just doing it because and others, but like I said...its possible it was well deserved too...even though we do our best, our best is still a learning process for both of us...even more so for ivo only because my programming experience through the ages makes me an extreme perfectionist about everything I code, but even if everything works perfectly on the surface my code is visibly inexperienced and uses hackjob methods to anyone with python skill.

Picking up DAZ as fast as ivo did is honestly much more impressive IMO (and I have tried using it), even if his lighting is off sometimes or theres some clipping...it was all learned from scratch out of pure desire to make a VN by himself and he started before I was even part of the project--fully intending to do it alone.

Regardless if I may get praised for my crazy additions most VNs never considered, he's definitely the more impressive end of this project coming to life, even if he cant see that himself 🤷‍♂️

It used to be called fan service, and it was expected. Anime also often covered a wide range of personality and visual types, to appeal to all tastes. Modern things get heavily censored from their web/manga/novel or anime source, in the case of remakes.

There's a lot of things that were commonplace in previous decades, that a lot of people today get offended? by. Either way, they do not like it. Some of it is trying to attract a wider audience, or broadcast rules, but a lot of it is self censorship.

A lot of people seem mad that characters behave in a certain way, and don't think it should exist in art. Moral panic basically. It used to be religious and conservative voices that were anti-fun, but now it's younger and progressive? voices that are offended by all the things, unless it's a special minority victim class, then they're all for it.

I thought it was hilarious and it would have prevented all the complaints about it being unskippable from a much wider audience...but ivo wanted me to add warnings for gore and such (thinkung further ahead than me about steam and other sites), so the idea got taken out entirely--the other warnings took the humor out of it 🤷‍♂️

I think that will bother our other friends here who are from France. I'm from an unimportant small EU country, and all we have of our lives is booze, sport and porn. Take one of those things, and people will start riots.
