Wait... isn't the whole cartoon trademarked? Do you have the rights to use these characters?
Just in case you're not kidding, this game was made in 2013, has nothing to do with Indie Gala, and was based on the TV series that Jim Davis (the creator of Garfield) is Executive Producer of. The game and series were both made in collaboration with Paws Inc, Davis' company specifically set up to oversee production of Garfield media and to control licensing of the characters. So yes, the game developers did have the rights to use Garfield characters in the game, as they were working with the trademark holders.

Now, the real question is did Jim Davis approve of the bland gameplay, tired mechanics and lack of fun to be had in the game, or does he attempt to claim ignorance when asked about it? I'm guessing the latter.

The movies weren't great, yet they sold well. Jim didn't care about the quality back then. You think he would care about the quality of this game knowing that?
