Get rid of "free to play" keys?

I know this is free and all, I've gotten some neat games out of it.

But couldn't they get rid of all the free to play game keys? it's pretty ridiculous to "win a key" to a game you can simply get for nothing directly through steam.

I'm sure they can find a quick way to do a query and clean their DB.

Although, if the game once had card drops, removing the free to play game and activating the key will enable them. If not, the key should still give +1 to your library.

The "+1" to library is pretty worthless imo, but would it indeed re-enable card drops to a game that doesn't have them anymore(after it went free to play)?

If that's the case then I guess there is some value to them after all.

aside from the +1 for achivements, if you're using family share to let someone else try the game it prevents them from ninja-removing your free game from your account since only freebies can be removed, owned games are permanently tied
