That why I spoiler tagged it...don't want to be acting high and mighty about it, its just what I love.

I clearly know jack about most of the gaming sites most people here are hardcore into lmao... we all learn about what we enjoy doing, to each their own.

Honestly though, thats one thing I don't understand myself. Its alot of wasted effort...only guess I have is they already made something similar to scrape more important sites for key data (like trading/selling) and just figured why not...or its just quiet people (The 🥷) hanging around.

I mean, why did we all buy into IGs leveling system when its usually US dropping the keys there in the first place--to snub each other?
It doesn't make sense after being here long enough to realize that simple fact. We support the idea of people cheating for levels and then complain about it lol. I don't get it.

As for the bots (if they are), someone will always make something to be lazy...then they give the code away and it grows into malicious and ridiculous just because people can.

A good example is the automated phone spam you know every sane person not gaining from it has to despise lmao.

Someone made that and sold the source code so people could try to steal information. Imagine getting ripped off to try and rip people off? :ROFLMAO:

I only know because i wanted the source to block the damn things, so I needed the specific methods used--but I sure wasn't paying the bastard for it...rather buy an old school phone for the same price to strangle them with lol.
This is the kind of post that I like to see from you, also the stuff about automated character recognition whereby bots can detect the invisible space that humans cannot detect (thus invalidating a steam key when one attempts to copy/paste it). I like it when you talk nerdy about computer things, because it resonates with me.

My opinion is that people are using bots to scrape Steam Keys for multiple accounts in order to leech Steam Cards. The idea is to have 10 Steam Accounts (maybe more) leeching cards for 10 copies of the same game, you could then transfer those cards to a Main Account and sell them or collect badges. If you get 80% of the cards needed for Game #1, you could sell cards from Game #2 & Game #3 to buy the missing cards for Game #1 (to get the badge essentially for free). You could also just sell all of it to buy games cheap at the end of the year (during the Winter Sale)

I also liked your post (elsewhere) about how under-clocking the GPU could also cause problems (for the guy who actually did it) I never thought it would freeze up a computer during normal use, only while playing a game or muxing some DVD files together (rendering video, etc.)

I agree with you about the entire leveling system on Indiegala, all of my giveaways here were set to level 0 giveaway. When I did my first giveaway, there came a moment where I wondered if higher level giveaways would give me more EXP. (it doesn't tell you) and I thought about doing it, then decided not to. I tell you this because you may have wondered why someone would ever start setting the requirements to a higher level, perhaps they thought like me that they would earn more EXP. I figured out rather quickly that it would just contribute the the exact problem that you already outlined and I didn't want to be a part of that. I wouldn't normally mention on the forums that I do giveaways from time to time, but since it's a discussion about level restricted giveaways and how people feel about them, I thought I'd weigh in, they suck. Didn't know you were so interested in the tech side of things honestly...nice to know now, but you and every other user could be a different scenario.

Honestly I don't think we have bots here (besides the ROBOT member section of course), although its not impossible by any means...actually easier than most web scraping tools and Xenforo (the forum base 'design') is also Open Source on Giothub--good one IG 😂

I wanted to raise my level at first to join a Metal Gear and a Spyro Trilogy GA that (obviously) someone else created...may have even been a IG one, but I have never eve heard of anyone winning one of those multiple odd GAs (if some has, I'd love to know), either way...it was all based on IG's system and the users.

But even before that (or my first GA) when looking at the "make a GA" section...I was like why would I make a giveaway that gains me NOTHING except what I gain anyways and make its harder for other people to enter. Especially as a newbie myself then, I hated it...why do it to others.

Considering silver is free, I could see putting them at Level 1 or so, if you haven't put up 2 measly games and your care enough you should buy 2 games and throw them up (thats what it took me), if people don't want you to enter a GA because you contributed nothing...that I could understand.

Once you get into the higher levels, its just who can beat who to the top--creating the problem we all hate.

And as for the mystery question, is does tell you how many points each game is worth when you hit Calculate, and it goes by game, game current cost, all the data they gather...nothing changes per level except the fact it takes you a hell of alot more to hit the next - kind of like an old school RPG fighting the same monster over and over lmao

Thanks for the post just to let me know how you feel at least...unfortunately every user is different and I'm sure to some I seem like I'm acting like a know it all or trying to put them down.

Let me say this, I am certainly not here to rub peoples faces in the mud (unless they really ask for it, usually the scammers and scum) and IMHO (and its my opinion)--The first sign of being intelligent at all is knowing that you can never know it all...maybe your better at your particular skill set, but everyone has something they're good at and there is always someone better than you...or will be.

Nobody is perfect.

I won one! It was one made by IndieGala for Hunting Simulator. Level 0 and only 1 iS to enter. There were 26,692 total entries in the end. I entered 43 times and somehow won, haha!

I'm with you guys that the level system here for giveaways is not great. I guess I'm kind of on the opposite end though in that I usually make all of my giveaways at the highest possible level. My thought process is there are likely lots of bots and multi-accounters in the lower levels, and I don't want them winning my games. Especially because I've heard some of them just try to pawn the games off in keyshops after winning. To me, that's bogus.

There will be some people up in the higher levels who got there by dubious means, but I like to think it's only a small few. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic though. My thought was that someone at the higher levels would be more likely to actually use the key they won, rather than just trying to harvest them for whatever shady reason.

I guess there's probably a happy medium somewhere that is too high a level for bots and account spammers, but low enough that it wouldn't give people who abuse the system great odds. I'm not sure what that would be though, maybe level 4-6?

But I feel the situation here is getting worse. When I won Hunting Simulator (mentioned above), there were roughly 27,000 total entries in the end. That was like literally one year ago. I won the game on July 26, 2021. To compare, there is a Level 0, 1 iS giveaway going on right now for Sword Art Online: Lost Song. There is still about a day and half to go on the giveaway and it already has over 500,000 entries. That can't be legitimate!

Bots and cheaters will get to the highest levels, people who don't care will be on the lower tiers, and actually I think the newbies and lower levels will be more likely to USE the key since they are new and don't have or know half the games...and besides, if ANYONE can enter, its fair odds all around, regardless how many entries really. Thats down to luck.

As for the Indie GA, thanks for letting me know, I thought they were doing it just to give users a way to waste spare silver...personally I try to run wishlists of people I know are legit when I have spare silver.

I'm still level 1 and don't care to climb higher, I prefer to raffle them here or something, I was kind of shocked to find out @LuckyStrike1305 was since I assume shes been here much longer than me.

Idk, I'm not going to say I have the answer to the problem, I just know that WE make each other gain levels to get games from each other, when its indiegalas lure system...and to me that makes no sense.

If people cheat or want to rise they will get to the highest level possible and no 'middle' level will stop them...it only stops those who didn't bother.

Thats why I suggested level 1, new accounts are a mass of the issue, just keep making them. But their not gonna make the bots gai a level first...anything beyond that makes no difference since the bots would just KEEP gaining levels.

Again, all just my opinion...if I really cared, I'd spend the money to gain levels legit. I don't--its actually gotten so bad even in the forums I barely want to take keys anymore, deleted my wl, said fuck it...if i talk its to talk or warn other uses when I feel something is really off.

EDIT x2:

I actually dump like 3-5 silver into sword art every time I pass it, as well as contra and pac-ma 256, it COULD technically be legit :ROFLMAO:

Maybe I'm admittedly a little biased on the levels...I never plan to bother gaining anymore, if I have free stuff i don't want--it'll go to people here, period. So i sit where I sit till the end of days (or IG), whichever.

See, I think the bot accounts are not leveling up. Because they would actually have to create giveaways in order to do that, and I think that would be noticeable. We do see a lot of spam and fake giveaways, but those look like they are being made by real people to game the system, not bots.

My theory is that people are making a ton of accounts, and then having their bots spam entries into all the Level 0s with all of their fake accounts. Trying to push the odds into their favor. That's why all the Level 0 giveaways have like exponentially more entries than they did compared to even a year ago.

It could also explain why the Giveaways section always crashes. The sheer amount of automated accounts spamming entries just overwhelms the servers until the bots are finished going through their business.

I could definitely be wrong about this, but that's mainly why I don't make Level 0 giveaways. I'd be curious to know how many users are Level 8, and what percentage of them got there by abusing fake giveaways. If it were a higher number than I expect, I might stop making them Level 8 too.

I actually think your spot on, which is why I suggested level 1 and not 0. I'm level 1 lmao so count me out, your level 8? Damn.
