can confirm the key is take, the right solution was a Ceasar shift (so OP was telling the truth, the technique is old)

I couldn't find a rule for it anywhere, but I can tell you in this puzzle the numbers were also shifted. I guess for consistency's sake OP chose to do that, it made more sense that way
