Can "Zombie Driver HD Soundtrack" be installed without the base game?
Because then I'm interested. ⛱️
Edit: Well, people with the base game go first of course. :)

Zombie Driver HD Soundtrack doesn't require base game in library. I won and activated the soundtrack before getting the base game. It's not a DLC although it's associated with the game.. Weird but some things on steam just doesn't make total sense..

Got a Fireburst key I got from the gameplay giveaway. Seems most of them are invalid but I have no way to check as I already own the game. If someone is interested message me and I'll send him/her. Rgrds.
Can't you use the trick on the forum to check the key? 🗝️

Nope you wouldn't know. Any key for the same game that you have in your library will just tell you "This Steam account already owns the product(s) contained in this offer. To access them, visit your library in the Steam client." Be it if the key has been used or is still working. That's why have to find a person without that particular game to test the legitimacy of said key :)

Steam recently added a "Soundtrack" type of. It's like DLC but doesn't require the base game. Most older games had their sound tracks as DLC and required the base game, but I guess the market for "I want this music but don't want the game it came from" was enough that they made a whole new category.

You would know if it is a legitimate key for a game you have. But sure, you would not know if it is still working.
There is no method to test if it is still working without activating the key. Or should I say, we cannot do that?
But it is different with a DLC. Somebody who has the DLC can test if it is the right DLC. And somebody who does not have the base game can test if it still can be activated. At least, that's how I understand it. ⛱️

Luckily I had some Warhammer Underworlds: Online - Warband: Sepulchral Guard keys on hand, that I've put in giveaways and gave personally, so I'm pretty sure that they are already used.
Anyway I don't have the main game, so I can confirm that Steam only tells you "The product code you've entered requires ownership of another product before activation." (and of course all the other info, like name of the product and package ID, that we can get using instructions here) if you try to activate a DLC key without having the base game even if they key is actually used.
So it's just like with other keys - Steam is only willing to tell us if it's a real key or not, but its "used-ness" remains a mystery.

PS Actually, if you (or anyone else) don't have the main game, here are some DLC keys that I personally activated, so you can test it too:
Farnham Fables Tape 1 Episode 2A4H78-MCGK2-W8AT0
Magicka Vietnam - RetailP9Y3A-M8B02-738Z9
Switch Galaxy Ultra Charity Pack 1AYL7Y-4V4W7-6GMTZ
Vanguard Princess LilithE4QZT-N5ZVQ-K3EXC
Trainz: Settle and Carlisle Comp5J3FG-MY08C-ZV6HM

EDIT: Or I could just register a new Steam account and test it myself immediately. Silly me! And yes it still only says that it "requires ownership of another product"

Weird.. A "gamer" going into a game site but wants only to buy soundtracks not the game.. It's like going to the cinemas/theater and buy a ticket for musicals.. Can't fully comprehend it but ok.. 😅

From what I have experienced is this while trying to activate a DLC.
-Scenario A (working key), no base game no DLC, product code you've entered requires ownership of another product before activation.
-Scenario B (used key), no base game no DLC, Steam tells you a base game is required. Tested FreaKill's DLC Switch Galaxy Ultra Charity Pack 1
-Scenario C (working key), have base game no DLC, key activates.
-Scenario D (used key), have base game no DLC, product code you've entered has already been activated by a different Steam account. Tested FreaKill's DLC for Trainz: Settle and Carlisle Comp.
-Scenario E (either key), have base game have DLC, Steam account already owns the product(s) contained in this offer.

here are some DLC keys that I personally activated
Thanks FreaKill for the used keys at least we can now confirm (based on my test) what Steam will notify on different scenarios :)

Actually it makes perfect sense. Let's say there's a PC gamer and they only play RTS, RPG, and VN games, all other genres are not their cup of tea. But they still like the kick-ass OST from Sayonara Wild Hearts, which at launch was most easily available to buy through Steam. (Or was it only for sale on Steam at the time? I can't remember exactly, but I think it was either buy on Steam, listen on Youtube or buy limited vinyl records. EDIT OK, looked a bit more and Spotify had it before Steam release, but that's a streaming service and as far as I understand it's not really set up to let people buy music and get the files DRM-free, so the point still stands.) Why would they overpay for a game that that they don't want to get music that they do?
And I'm not even considering the part of "PC Master Race" that only considers Steam releases to be truly on PC and would buy everything through Steam if given the opportunity 🤪
So it's a good option both for customers (they can get what they want more easily) and for Steam (they get to sell more stuff).

Thanks FreaKill for the used keys at least we can now confirm (based on my test) that what Steam will notify on different scenarios :)
You're welcome!
