The Dune miniseries, you know the one with Susan Sarandon is far from forgotten, it's as stunning today as it was back then.

Don't much like the new lead, and yes the decision (a popular one with studio heads these days) to break it into two parts is a bad one, IMO, But sorry, I don't like Oscar Isaac, not since his comedic half-serious portrayal in the latest Star Wars travesties.
Music is great, as with the majority of Zimmer's works, but not the equal of Toto's methinks. Nothing equals Brian Eno's "Prophecy Theme", either. Best portayals are Stellan, Xavier and Jason.
Just one thing. Stating the "...new Dune movie has better CGI..." is wrong. The first has no CGI. It's all visual effects, none done with a computer, as I saw in "The Sleeper Must Awaken", the making of Dune (1984).

I watched it a couple of years ago and I completely agree with you

This new Dune was everything the old one should have been and more. Thank you Denis Villeneuve.

This version of the movie did not dissapoint (except for the ending) far superior to the disjointed mini-series and a graphical improvement on the 1984 verision. but
HAR-KIN-NINS vs HAR-KO-NINS through me off a bit

The only thing I liked about the new Dune is the greater attention to the story that was provided. But it by no means measures up to the standards of David Lynch's Dune. They destroyed the openeing by not explaining the premise of the story as was given in the opening scene of the original Dune.. Lady Jessica is much weaker than Lynch's Lady Jessica, does she have tear up every five seconds? Patrick Stewart is a much better Gurney Hallick, Dean Stockwell much better Doctor Yeawh, and Brad Dourif the best Lieter Kynes. Why did they have to do away with the crazy Harkonen, not Harkenen, emperor. I loved the way the original emperor floated around the room laughing manically. Where was the space guild in the spice gas tanks. How about the shields and Paul's training, where was the training bot. Paul's test, I missed the recitation of I must not fear. Fear is the great mind killer. He says this while in the pain box during his testing, in the original the graphics of his hand burning away were superb, until he finally screams PAIN! There were so many other ways that the original outshines the new one that I could type forever, but I'll end it here.
