Greetings,

It is I, the Great and Powerful Quizmaster...tremble before me and pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!

I have been managing the GalaQuiz ever since its conception, for nearly an year now, preparing over 160 quizzes so far. It's not much, but it's an honest work that sparks joy in my life and the life of others.

The quiz system didn't start in a perfect state, but it was gradually improved until a point of decent buoyancy. While it still has some hiccups here and there, they aren't as game breaking as they were in the dark old days, the quiz is still fairly functional for most of the participants. Of course, there are still plenty of stuff to be fixed and upgraded at it, lots of potential, but at the moment the manpower (tech team) is tackling other issues.

The quizzes themselves weren't ideal in the beginning either (and some of the issues persist), such as:
  • Too vague Answers/Questions/Hints (will shorten it to A/Q/H)
  • Too long A/Q (not enough time to read, think & answer)
  • Multiple A to a Q
  • Outdated A to a Q
  • Too obscure knowledge for Q/H
  • Too general H for a specific Q
  • Misinterpretable Q/H/A
  • Language Barriers (harder words for non-native English speakers)
  • Regional Barriers (something that might be common knowledge for some, might not for others, or just be different)
  • H font not being legible or being misinterpreted
  • H/A/Q missing special characters
  • Unbalanced quiz difficulty (too easy or too hard)
  • Typos
  • Late H
  • Delayed quizzes
  • Improperly estimating a prize poll due to the participants/difficulty
  • etc.
These are just a few of the standards I am trying to be careful about when making a quiz, based on the continuous and valuable feedback received from all of you. While yes, despite being aware of them I am sometimes breaking them, trying new gimmicks, spicing things up etc. but overall I am trying to learn from them and improve, however, recently, despite double, triple checking the quiz, in an attempt to fix an answer (make it less vague), I probably accidentally selected that answer as being correct (I could just blame the quiz system for not saving it properly, but it's still my fault for not quadruple checking). It was a slip and I have to apologize, as far as I know I didn't do it before (I might've, but forgotten about it). I guess I am getting old.

Making quizzes about various topics is something I have enjoyed doing, ever since I was a young Quiznovice, and it is something I still enjoy doing, but...with time, more and more time consuming stuff or unexpected events are piling up, and as many of you know, once that happens, enjoying things like videogames, movies, books etc. isn't as convenient as it once used to be. Mismanaging time, is one of my hold-ups, combined with the occasional burnout, lack of inspiration, energy, motivation, unrealistic expectations or simply being a big dumb-dumb. But enough of this melodrama, let us be proactive and try to find a solution to this.

TLDR I would like to maintain the 3 quizzes per week frequency, maybe even more if possible, to give y'all free galacredits to spend them wherever you want here on IndieGala, however you want: get higher discounts on stuff, get them for free, participate in giveaways etc. but, there are times when making a fresh new quiz can be hard for me (for various reasons) and rather than doing a rushed job or delaying it entirely, I'd like to step on my Quizmaster pride and ask you, the honorable & amazing Galapeople, for assistance. (ok, this was too long for being a TLDR section) I have two ideas for that:
  1. Make a new thread of theme proposals, maybe a few question examples or some helpful sources, for me to inspire from. While there is a nearly an endless information stream out there, sometimes just choosing the right topic can make all the difference.
  2. Make a whole quiz by yourself (or with someone's help) and send it via a PM to me. Yes, you heard that right: do my work for me.
Sadly, I can NOT offer you any medical insurance, dental coverage, gym membership, office car, retirement plan, your own personal secretary or even a volunteering certificate, BUT I will make sure to credit you somehow (if you so desire), you will be the only one (besides myself) knowing all the correct answers and...well, what the hen, if you do a truly good job that everyone enjoys, no need to be stingy here, might as well properly compensate you for your time with some GalaCredit (besides what you'd earn from the quiz itself as a winner) or a bundle or sth, donno, I don't think the big boss will have a problem with that, you scratch my back, I scratch yours, what's fair is fair...but speaking of fair, since this is more of an impromptu idea, I haven't really thought on what would constitute a fair reward here, for the future Quizapprentices (if anyone does decide on participating) for their assistance. Anyways, don't get your hopes up or have any high expectations, this idea is still in BETA as of right now.

Feel free to throw your opinion or rant below.

Thank you for reading, wash your hands & stay safe.

So we do the work and you take the blame and face the Quizgoblins? Sounds fair

I'm not completely against us Quizpeons doing some of the heavy lifting for you, but writing all ten questions (with all the answers), that seems a bit too much power (and work!) for a mere mortal. Sure, designing the whole quiz introduces ways to create interesting works of art, but perhaps just asking volunteers for individual questions (possibly on a stritctish theme) that you could combine into a quiz would work fairer. Given enough Quizapprentices none would have all the answers.

Granted, that would void one major incentive to actually do the work. Just ranting here with my washed hands.

What is this "mortal" you speak of? Is it a beverage? (Not to be confused with an old bever)
Even if we do supply the H/Q/A-batches, they'd still need to be proofchecked prior to being accepted.
I'd suggest the process being that of first supplying the hints only, then have the recipient (in most or all cases, the quizmaster) do research based on them hints, then cross reference with the related Q/A once the research has concluded. Optimally, it would be preferable for this task to be carried out by more than one person, so as to gain a better estimate of whether any submitted hints are too obscure for the Q/A related; if the ones doing the research are unable to include the correct answers within their notes, one could well assume that it's too vague/obscure and either rework it or omit it from the batch in favour of another entry for the batch.
Granted, this would potentially just create more work for the quiz master, but it would also ensure quality control by spreading the blanket across more than a single individual.

I guess one could also form 2 separate groups where either could supply a batch of H/Q/A to the other, then either agree upon it and subsequently submit it, or disagree on it and rework it.
Any individual in either group could submit a full batch, though any other member in the group could suggest alterations in order to either correct the one suggesting or improve upon an incoherrent/flawed/erronous H/Q/A.

Dang.... almost midnight. I'll continue this train of thoughts later...

Edit: Come morning, I have forgotten what the last wagons of the thought-train contained... Guess I'll just leave the post as it is...

@ Mr. Gentleman - I think both the ideas could be used in tandem. It would be a good idea to have more than one person so that the A/Q/H could be cross verified because as you said, something that's easy to understand for someone might be very difficult for someone from another culture or a non native english speaker.

Also, I'd like to volunteer to become a Quizapprentice :)

Everyone is welcomed in the Indiegarden of Knowledge. Feel free to submit to me as a PM a quiz and together we can spread the knowledge (and GalaCredit) to the people.

I actually got my first quiz submission today. So I am looking forward for more from the willing.

Thank you for your interest.

Well I shared a quiz and I had to remind Mr. Gentleman (lol) he promised some "handsome reward" for it. He said I'll get it "soon". This was on June 13th. I still haven't received anything and he doesn't answer my PM.

Strange. Paula told me she sent it to you in that day. Let me check with her.
