j2me thread.jpg

This thread is designed to discuss the ancient times of mobile gaming
(well, you know, before the Android and iOS).
Anyone for whom
Gameloft, DeValley, Digital Chocolate, Handy Games, MForma, Living Mobile, Microforum, Mighty Troglodytes, Net Lizard, e7play, China Wireless Arts and many others aren't just empty words will be accepted here as their own.
Try to be polite.
I don't even know what else to add...

ๅฝฉ่™นๅŸŽๅ ก-ไธƒๅฝฉๅฎ็Ÿณ็ฏ‡
Title: ๅฝฉ่™นๅŸŽๅ ก-ไธƒๅฝฉๅฎ็Ÿณ็ฏ‡ (Rainbow Castle: The Legend of The 7 Gems)
Genre: jrpg, turn-based rpg
Developer: NPC Studio
Year: 200?

As I've said already as late as yesterday I've completed another java-game, this time it was a jrpg in line with the oldschool Final Fantasy and/or Dragon Quest series. It's called ๅฝฉ่™นๅŸŽๅ ก-ไธƒๅฝฉๅฎ็Ÿณ็ฏ‡ and it's the first game in the eponymous Rainbow Castle series.

I'm also trying to translate this game and ATM most of the menus' text is done already.

Unfortunately, I can't find/open the files with names/dialogues, so the game is still pretty much in chinese.๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ
If someone can help me with this problem, it would be great.

๐Ÿ‘‰English translation (not yet)๐Ÿ‘ˆ

Another ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ mobile pearl I've found was the j2me version of the oldschool action-jrpg game Ys II by Nihon Falcome.
It's called ไผŠ่‹IIIๆญฃ็‰ˆ็่— (literally Ys III even though the plot/gameplay are from the second part of the series, for some reason ) and known as "Angel of Darkness CN" at the english speaking sites like phoneky.com (paint me clueless, why it has this kind of title ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ).

Unfortunately, all the text is in chinese and my phone/KEmulator gives me an error (Nullpointer Exception and the other one) while I'm entering one of the in-game locations, but maybe there's something can be done to fix this problem.
We'll see in the future^ะท^

Ultra Phoenix -Resurgence-
Title: Ultra Phoenix -Resurgence-
Genre: scrolling shooter
Developer: Uwan
Year: 2006

Ultra Phoenix - Resurgence is a neat, colorful and hardcore shoot 'em up (vertical scrolling shooter, to be precise) that has three starships with their own stats and visual ques. The best thing is that it isn't hard 'cause you have a pea-shooter and enemies outnumbering.
No, there's still a screen full of enemies and their projectiles, but your starship has at least three options to fight 'em off:
  • collect "P" to upgrade your main weapon
  • hold the attack button to charge your special weapon meter and wipe enemies out
  • if cornered use the power bomb that kills everything (aside from bosses) on-screen
My personal highscore:

Best graphic games were made for N-gage. I never owned one (I wished I had), but I could easily play N-gage games on Nokia 6600.
I remember:
Hooked On: Creatures of the Deep It was great fishing game with incredible graphic for symbian:
Xandu Next great rpg from Nihon Falcom. There was a remake on pc too but I haven't played it yet.
Many games from Gameloft were really good, as Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed.
A casual game I played so much was Bounce, addicting platform(?!) game.

whoa! it was on PC?! Haven't played any Xanadu game, but eventually of course I will ('cause Nihon Falcome rules!๐Ÿค˜), so it's nice to know that there're other means to play this title outside of the long dead platform. ๐Ÿ™ I bet that screenshot was from the PC-version 'cause N-Gage had a freakin' small screen for the kind of games that was released for it? XD

Well now, today morning I decided to translate this game into english.
  • intro cutscene
01.png
  • all the item/weapon/skill titles and descriptions
107.png108.png
  • some of the in-menus text
102.png106.png103.png104.png
  • full tutorial
02.png03.png
  • most of on-screen messages
109.png

What still should be done:
  • help/controls in main menu (already found it, working on translation)
  • dialogues (can't find the files with all the chit-chatting)
  • hood (not sure, 'cause it can be not the actual text but pictures)
  • title screen menu (same as the previous one)

I'd say that iPhone firmly goes way beyond business class, considering how popular it is through masses.
also 32 mb memory sounds SICK! I had like 64 mb memory stick in my SE k750i and NEVER WAS ENOUGH, 'cause I love to listen some music and there was a place for like 6-9 songs only. That was a hell XDD
