I believe a discord would be MUCH easier to use in this fashion than steam. The verification, the bots, the app has better uptime xD We can have our nicknames, channels, easier navigation than steam, etc
I do agree that Discord will be much easier but it might not totally weed out multi-accounts much. I mean for myself I do have 2 Discord accounts (1 for gaming channel spams that gleam forces me to join and what not, another clean channel for actual chatting use, though very very seldom used).
Also since most of out chats will still revolve around this beloved forum we call our little breakaway from life (no pun intended
BreakAway
) we need not use the lousy chat system on Steam Groups page. Steam group will be mainly used to check for games where gifter wants their gifted games to be activated on tied steam account and or played within certain time period (only if gifter puts this requirements on their giveaway).
I think these sound fine but I hope that the additional requirement ("Games must be played within 2 months, and maybe decent progress within 6 months. For gifters who wants to see their gift played") is not used very often. For example, people who have jobs may not be able to play a lot before their respective vacation periods arrive, and some newer games may require even hardware upgrades before people can play them, which they might not be able to afford at the moment. I think the key is that the person should really intend to play the game instead of only collecting, but making a strict time limit for that can be difficult.
Understood but the requirements are for gifters to put though. I believe most of the gifters here are plenty alright with games not being played soon enough due to many circumstances each of us has. I would be very very ashamed myself to say that I have been getting games from many of the kindest people here over the past year but how many games have I actually played? Less than 10 out of the perhaps 1k games I have won, traded or gifted that a good number I really look forward playing. I am perhaps the biggest criminal as I am still greedy for more games despite now being busy and lacking of a good computer spec to play anymore than say Deadly 30 (Valorant crashes my pc 10 minutes into play is how bad my pc can handle games now, low settings mind you)
I believe most gifters are happy enough if their given games goes to the steam account that it was meant for instead of multi-accounters.
I think the steam group is a good idea, but for what purpose would it be, only giveaways?
Mainly for giveaways, more like giveaways could still be done here but gifter will indicate that only open to Gamer's Lair steam group members for example. Steam group could also be used to organize multiplayer gameplays as and when we can. After all we are a gaming community that is spread vast and wide across the globe. A rather uncommon or I would say rare to have, so why not cherish smacking each other in game across different time zones?
your post reminded me of something that I should've posted like 2 or 3 days ago before the giveaway floods started here

, when I saw this first I was shocked

but now I'm weirdly kind of proud or happy about it I guess

.
This is also 1 case where the steam group could prove your innocence rather than being blanketed as a multi-accounter just because someone else has the same name as you. He/she may have the same Legolas but will definitely not tag the same Steam account. There will be some entry requirements in accepting the Steam accounts to the group if and when created.
