Because he is branded with Dark Sigil , its a form of a curse stat called hollowing . Since Dark souls is so lore rich , the most simple explanation would be that I basically sold my soul to the devil for free levels . The one who wears dark sigil can level up for free five times , the only downside is that he looks like Freddy Kruger .

Gravelord Nito from Dark souls 1 , he is entirely made from skeleton minions , one of my favourite boss designs in entire series .
