I would freaking love a steam deck, it would be awesome as a parent and it would be way easier than a laptop to cuddle with my wife while gaming. Maybe later as I am buying a different house and we need to fix it up.

I put up with win 10, but I really don't want to even try 11, oh windows 7 how I miss you!

I have tried kali linux, but I never installed it on bare hardware. I have mostly used Ubuntu or Pop os (debian) other than recently switching to Endeavour os. (arch)

Microsoft need to listen to their customers, they almost seem to like to annoy their user base more and more with each new version.

Handheld consoles break my spine now, had to give them up...but the software is going to finally be legitimate on Linux.

I still have 7/10 on my rig, used a Microsoft self released hack to try 11...it was gone almost after installation.

They removed the file menu in right click and added store apps, you have to enter a sub-menu to find rename and delete 🤦‍♂️

They are trying to fight apple, pathetically, and do half the work. Mobile on desktop and pay to use software. it was what MADE Microsoft.

Bill Gates stepped down right before it happened...so you have to assume its the retard he left in charge lmao.

Next someones going to say "lets remove the command prompt" ...and "promptly" be shot into space with a bullet in the face lol.

That's too bad.

I was happy using 7 until the end of time, but unfortnately I had to upgrade to use a piece of software I needed.

That and possibly putting ads in file explorer among other stupid ideas. Yeah the microsoft store is also pretty horrible, and the office subscription.

I don't mind the handheld loss much, my phone is the same and that sucks after long use. I hacked my PSP to connect it to my monitor when it first got bad lol.

Now I use a monster rig...wouldn't even be happy with them, hate consoles...I end up wanting to mod them just to have freedom and then i risk being blocked from the net by sony or whoever.

Kind of like Apple compared to Windows 😉

Yeah I think alot of people will have these kind of issues in the future seeing how many of us are glued to our phones for hours. That's also why I want a steam deck: I always wanted a psp as a teen and a steam deck is way better, as you can use it as a console and a pc at the same time. Also it would be really cool to emulate psp games on it!

Yeah I prefer my laptop to my xbox one as I can do so much more, that and portability. Eventually I also hope to build a gaming rig, but that probably won't be happening for a couple years.

Hence why I jumped ship, I saw the hand writing on the wall! I'm enjoying the freedom of doing anything I want to my system on linux, I could even make it look like windows if I really wanted too!

Arch (I believed you mentioned), has one that looks like Windows (95? IIRC) or 3.1 even already lol. I was going to use that to fix my terminal dyslexia actually haha.

Edit: Theres one saving grace for windows users, although its not widely known...may not even exist anymore. Windows 7 had an app that (with pro or above) you could install to emulate older version like XP and run as a legit 16 bit OS, interrupts and all (programming - DOS hardware functions) which most emulators couldn't do.

If your using a laptop then I guess a deck would be temping.

And your not kidding--I won't be surprised if the younger generation ends up mutating the human spine(adaptation!) from never going outside lol.

Arch it self doesn't necessarily have distros that I'm aware of that look like windows, but it is often used to that way as it is a diy OS. You choose pretty much everything from drivers to desktop environments to boot systems ect..... There is a distro called Zorin (ubuntu based) I tried awhile back where it looked similar to windows and you could choose whether you wanted it too look like xp, 7, and 98? It''s been awhile though, but as I was trying to say you could make pretty much any linux system look like windows.

Well ya...I mean its all really unix based, even the boot kernel is open source (which is why there are so many distros), linux was literally desiged to be free and have freedom. Its probably the only thing a dev can't change (don't quote me on that), I believe the license terms on the source forbid using it to sell but I may be wrong.

I doubt a stock Laptop would have came with Win Professional or above (it was usually home premium), which is required to use the software for some fucked reason...maybe because OEM "Build" (no manufacturer, one license) versions are always Pro. At least it used to be, the Wiki says different Widows Virtual PC - Wiki - I had found a developer one (actually XP Mode haha but requires pro or above).

These it actually has less requirements and run on different versions, has links to both but I didn't check if they're live.

Yes, fully. The interrupts don't work on things like DOSBOX (it crashes usually), where that doesn't...must be nice to emu your own OS that you simply hide under the hood 🤣

Its the only way I was ever able to really code in Turbo C++ 3.0.

I actually had a shell of a DOS 16 bit Windows styled OS I made in it with custom mouse cursors and stuff...nothing could run it except that.

For the record, I still have an XP machine, it wasn't my code (although the code is SUPER sensitive) and crashed TC++ utterly if you screwed up lol.

Short answer yes.

If you have Windows 7 Pro or better (maybe even vista pro or better), it'll run anything XP would.

Fair warning though...if I remember right, its much more resource intensive than something like DOSBOX...I don't remember everyones computers but I know laptops were mentioned, I'm honestly not sure how good that would run.

Its bee awhile since I used it...I did for coding ad now you can't run it either without something like that--defeats the purpose.
