I respectfully strongly disagree. Maybe it is nostalgia glasses, but the 1995 anime, which is true to the manga, is very narrow in focus, and doesn't do the series justice. Plus it ends on a cliffhanger.

1) yes, it doesn't do the original manga justice...as well as the Standalone Complex doesn't. OG manga is a whole other beast, filled with ton's of subtle (and not very subtle at times) humor and has much more colorful and bright atmosphere. I know 'cause I've actually read all three parts (1, 1.5 and 2).
IMO GitS:SC just looked boring and plain compared to both manga and the 1995 movie that still is one of the most famous anime in the history of humankind. For me the first and foremost in any animation are the visuals and not the story or characters progression, and 1995 movie still looks f1cking amazing. Like, for real.
