I've heard that a couple of times, but firstly IT'D BE THE DUMBEST IDEA EVER ('cause we already have his young ears, you know, in DMC3, pretty young, huh?) and secondly reboot's story totally contradicting what was made before it, so it doesn't sticks with your "it was just his young years" mantra. So deal with it, games are made not for the critics, they are made for players/fans, and if in the end DMC5 was hyped (by fans, not by developers themselves) FAR MORE than the reboot at hand, that speaks for itself.

That reboot was a part of the CAPCOM's "westernization" line (Bionic Commando, Final Fight: Streetwise etc.) and all those games bombed.
And before you've said anything about "the fact that those bombed doesn't mean those were bad", well, I personally did liked the Bionic Commando one, but others including DMC were a tough call. Some even shittier than the others in line.

Dude, let's make it clear, 'cause you're clearly confused by all those terms.
You can't reboot the movie/game etc., only the franchise itself. The thing you're talking about ("reboot of any game") is called remake.
And yes, DMC-DMC was a reboot (a fresh start not so fresh), not a remake.
If you like the idea about "it was meant to be his younger years, but still in continuity", it called "soft reboot" (cause you're changing only some stuff, not all the stuff). But the problem is it wasn't a soft reboot - ffs, they've changed Dante's origins, made him a half-angel. What's it, Twilight Saga or something??

Wait...so all of a sudden the infamous "tank controls" become a problem for you, even though the first game in the series had the same controls?
I don't get it...maybe there's some misunderstanding going on, so please, explain.
Also I've completed the original trilogy multiple times, I'm a fun of those low-poly models on the pre-rendered backgrounds. Never I've had any troubles with it's controls 'cause those was the style at the time and in the genre.

I don't think that digging up that corpse would be a great idea after you've continued the original series and had all the price from the fans.
I have nothing against some prequels (DMC3 was one and it was great, far better than the original two games for PS2), but I'm against the "modern stylized" reboot where all the gothic things become emo-punk or industrial. It's like if Linkin Park all of a sudden become a pop band... OH SH--!

No one can tell you "quit liking that game!", but saying it was good all around it's corners would be just a straight lie.
