Funny enough, in my 3rd year in school I've discovered gaming clubs for myself for the first time. for the most part it was feeled with Mega Drives but there were also a couple of PS1 already. So the story is... there was some guys that stated that in PS1 port of Quake II when you're out of ammo on the default blaster you'll get a melee attack in the form of chainsaw.Man, I love such urban legends! And you sure a great storyteller too. We haven't any legend like this, because arcade machines in the Soveit era wasn't as good looking as Donkey Kong (lol), but we've had those handheld games:

Which, as I found out later, was a shameless clone of Nintendo Game&Watch. And there was a legend that if you will score 1000 points - it will show a cartoon! I never believed that, because when you first turn it on it blinks with all possible pictures on it:![]()
But many boys and girls believed in that and tried hard to score![]()

Oviously, it was never the case, but now when I'm thinking about it...maybe they weren't outright lying. Maybe they just confused first Quake with this one. And first game had the chainsaw in it indeed.
