Well, as someone who knows A LOT about the adult visual novel scene, I can tell you that you're wrong.I have more jesters than anything myself...people are just stupid trolls. I got 2 at once for standing up against a dev being a rip off asshole (speaking of this, edit below)
The big problem is everyone uses the cheap jester as the only insult and they have multiple different awards for actually being useful lol.
When I tried to buy one on my own account it was to remove the jester from the top three on my profile
Don't ask me why since its always hidden lol...but I also got quite a few random high point ones for helping with technical issues on the forums there,
At one point either Bandai or Capcom actually gave me one themselves for helping the users, I gotta admit that was pretty sick...and getting one from them showed they actually appreciated me doing free tech support for them
EDIT:
Anyone here ever played AOA Academy? Its smut...but theres a bigger point here
If you played (or worse payed) for AOA Academy on Patreon, you know it was abandoned by the developer...the same developer who makes (or stole) the game Being A DIK (almost an exact replica of AOA down to the character design), as well as Acting Lessons.
Dr PinkCake...whos honestly a DIK himself heh.
Anyone who knows about both games is more than likely well aware, but I figured I'd share since he just bailed on god knows how many paying patreons with their cash.
A. O. A. Academy and Being a DIK didn't have the same dev, for starters. Also, A.O.A. was one of the billion attempts to cash in on BaDIK's popularity. Now, there were college/uni/school-based AVNs before BaDIK, but not one of them came close to that level of popularity and quality.
I knew Dr PinkCake before he became a big name in Western AVNs circles. I talked with him several times and I supported his creative decisions when he was attacked because of Acting Lessons. As he would become a bigger name, you could also see some of his negative qualities - greediness being one of them, disrespectfulness for his fans and first Patrons from the well-known AVN forum, where almost every free-lance AVN dev started and so on... But there are also some things that he is rightfully respected for - his coding skills are impeccable - there are no bugs in his games and he even created his own anti-piracy trick so that no one can poke in his game code. His writing has a flow and game choices are clear and impactful - although I would criticize some of the plotholes and the way he built suspense in a few scenes.
A. O. A. didn't have exactly good coding. The new update would often break the save file from the previous one - something that DPC never did in his games - and choices in A.O.A. were often badly implemented. The only reason why some people think those two games are related is that one of the main girls (Jenny) looks like one of the main girls in BaDIK (Maya). And that's all. I could write a lot about AVNs and all that's happening in those circles, but there are more important things to talk about.
