I tried Dirt Rally, it seems better than Dirt 4, but I wanted something more arcadey that allowed me to drive recklessly like NFS Hot Pursuit Remastered. Dirt 4 uses procedurally generated rally stages. Each one is basically left curve, right curve, left curve, right curve, etc. It felt very samey after a while to me. It has racetracks too that aren't procedurally generated but I wanted something more arcadey.

If your looking for something close to Hot Pursuit remastered, best suggestions I have is NFS The Run - hands down, but it'll cost you around the price of Forza and its only going to go up...my other suggestuons would be NFS Payback or Grid 2...but considering your dislike of autosport I couldn't say on Grid 2.

I was on the same hunt when I came here and thats how I ended up with ALL these racing games, closest I found was NFS The Run on origin, take it from someone who went on the same exact search.

This is the closest you'll find...amazingly Gamestop seems to have it in stock

I should add that absolutely nothing will scratch the itch Hot Pursuit did...and I mean nothing, at least nothing I've found and I own almost every racing game from indie to triple A. If you come across anything that does let me know...but The Run is damn good, all arcade, and the only other one to really drag me in besides Colin McRae Dirt 2.

The only two I haven't really tried yet are the two I grabbed today, NFS Shift and Shift 2 Unleashed...and both of those are delisted as well and run about $20

The biggest difference with the other games is you won't be able to select a course, your on a set path, especially in the run...but its far better than open world.

I don't know which bumbling idiot thought people wanted to GTA around town to pick a course...but I hate it, with a passion.

Do you know what the purpose of open world maps in racing games are? No courses...make one world and people drive in circles around it with different NPC's. Less Effort.

I'd pay the price of three NFS games for a course addition DLC in Hot Pursuit

Its Facade Racing now, less work more hours of play time so it feels like a long game...in reality its 22 circles in the same city and a grind.

Thanks for the suggestions. The EA app is too much of a pain in Linux. I wish it wasn't so. I've been waiting to give Grid 2 a chance. It is one of the few games I have that doesn't work nicely with Proton yet.

As for a recommendation. I think the drifting in Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed feels most like NFS Hot Pursuit Remastered to me. It is a kart racing game though. I have my eye on Aero GPX, hoping it turns out to be a spiritual successor to F-Zero GX.

If your looking for vehicle driving similar to NFS Hot Pursuit then Payback, The Run, Burnout Paradise, Rivals, Dirt Showdown believe it or not is the ONLY Dirt game with similar controls (which is steam and a couple bucks), and NFS Rivals maybe...been awhile since I played.

Burnout Paradise was made by Codemasters around the same time, difference there is the open world...which I didnt like but thats a personal thing. Payback definitely drives that way and Rivals did as well, I just never got far enough into it to give a real opinion.

Completely agree...I've got gold in every possible way on Hot Pursuit and I still tear a few tracks every now and then for no reason...although I always still do a race, I didnt even know you could just run the map

NFS Heat sucks...giant donkey balls. By far the worst NFS ever made and then they cloned it with unbound and made it even worse

Actually Speaking of Sonic Games, Hot Wheels actually feels pretty similar to me, the original one...I haven't played the second one yet...and Lego City Undercover is actually fun to drive around...better than Lego Racing honestly lol.

Sonic's racing games are pretty good! They have nice drifting. This one is hard. The stages and vehicles transform during the race.

I have the other two, the racing is decent but the drift to turbo is kinda meh for me...never played transformed, i'll throw it on the wishlist since I just broke the bank on two other racers lol.

Ya no problem...I wish someone would have had that list for me when I came a hundred racing games later I can at least share my opinion.

@purpleeventquail you may have an issue...Payback seems to require the EA launcher, I didnt dig very deep to see if its needed every launch, I don't recall needing it offhand but its a nasty storm here so I can't check...wanted to give you a heads up though in case.

Its just the Steam version of EA, everything else is done through steam...but if you have major issues idk if its a good plan yet. I'll launch it when I can to be sure.

It is like the first one except in a race the car will transform into a boat or a plane then back again into a car. There is an Afterburner based map where the car turns into a boat, then a plane, and then back into a car again in one lap. If you do flips in the air with the car with the right stick you'll be boosted unless you don't finish the flip before you land. The boost from drifting increases as you hold the drift. The game is around $5 on sale.

I launched it before reading this...and EA stopped it due to me being offline, if you have it already it doesn't matter so i'm not bothering to hop online and test it out again atm...but its definitely better than Heat

Forza Horizon 4 is supposedly something between an arcade racer and a sim.

definitely get fh 4 on sale. ive been hooked to it since i got it earlier this year. really fun and relaxing, and plenty of stuff to do.
