No need to make everything
That was literally (yes I know you hate how its used), quite as realistic as I could ever have been.
because i know i'm too hard headed about this one to bother.
AI does some things better than people, like a calculator. It can also search through text much faster than a human can. There are plenty of other things it's completely useless at.
it...not for things like this, use it for automated search results, word processing sure, don't try to make it think like a human...

What I was saying, about graphics mostly, is that there's still plenty of room for improvement in something like <latest racing game>
You have seen NFS...whatever its called right? GPU Unbound during the graphic loading screen or as I like to call it

NFS_Heat += animateg.likelyAI.garbage() with DLSS at Hangman # (lmao ivo)
The video, which could have also been done by hand by someone with a paintbrush, hand painting every frame if you prefer. It just would have taken a lot longer to create, and probably not posted on YouTube.
Yet then I would have been completely awestruck and bought the game out of pure respect for the passion and dedication...something that can't be said for triple transformed absolutely devoid of attention and grasp of what its trying to accomplish post-processing power.

Ivo uses DAZ for our game, the ridiculous things it does taking samples...between one attempt and the next shows thats it pretty much just randomly spitting artifacts and magic guesswork into each frame...differently on every attempt. Thats not intelligent or impressive, frankly its a programs grasp at the best chance result...and it can't even be redone in the same way without a single change to the scene

Its a terrible pretense at improving his already completed work and burning his computer to the ground...and for what? 💵 💲 💰 wow...truly amazing.

Like I said, its not that it can't do thing better...its that the people making it dont care about it doing something better...thats the terrifying part, not the concept--the people in control of the concept. And money will always determine who that is unless some no name nobody of a developer comes up with some super insane AI algorithm by likely pure chance itself...and then they'll get rich and the cycle will repeat itself because they will be blinded by the sudden fortune and forget why they started the entite thing in the first place...granted we have better luck with a no name dev, most devs these days unfortunately are book taught and learned for a paycheck...of course I dont see them being the ones to hit the nail on the head, since they're all reading the same book, but it's still more likely than not that greed will end up in control in the long run...its rare to find people who can hold true even when the world is in their palm or they have power, it would test anyone no doubt--but I do believe the right person would pass that test. The right people are far and few between unfortunately and we never know until its too late 🤷‍♂️

Again i'm getting off track. Yes some AI is great, I mean vic's legolas picture was unique compared to the rest and was done somewhere else if nobody happened to catch that obvious fact besides me...it was a blend of a queer elf on the shelf and legolas during christmas in a toy factory style where every other one was trying to look like a true scenario (and frankly bombed the idea), where his was actually worth doing and came out pretty good, not the best graphically, but the best as far as being original and that was more desirable to me at least. And quite funny lol.
probably not posted on YouTube.
Oh it would be on YouTube or somewhere...you don't put that kind of effort in without the urge to have people see it at least, this I admit, I've always yearned for the idea of knowing my project was loved and used/played/needed much more than I ever cared about making a profit...although at this point i'm drowning in life and some profit would literally be a saving grace--i'd pass it all up and have ivo continue the project in absolutely any situation and just hope it was successful even if I never saw a dime from it.

The thing thats great about the modern internet compared to all the stupidity is the ability to promote yourself or your ideas and dreams with nothing at all...the problem is everyone sees it as ten minutes of fame and become ridiculous for that reason instead of devoting their time to something worthwhile.

In case you haven't noticed, i'm just as much against people being morons as I am about letting them become more lazy and even more useless. Its not JUST AI thats the concern...its what people will do if they have another way to do nothing thats the real threat--79.6% give or take are already useless to the point of living oxygen absorbers with less brain cells than scorpion divided by ivo in their own words...multiplied by 10, and thats already in the negatives so you can imagine which direction the numbers going when multiplied

If you ask for my optinion or I give you one (and I tried to leave this alone intentionally), your going to get it...full throttle, no filter. Its who I am and who i've always been...IRL as well as online.

I wasnt stating this as facts of life--I was stating it as the way I see things...its up to everyone else to decide what they think, but my two cents is free and this one is a bubbling cauldron, so my ten cents got put in too.

I truly believe we're heading down a road to ruin and it bothers me everyday, but I have zero ability to change it myself except for speaking my mind...and this subject is one of the major ones, right along with pot destroying most of the housing and minds of every person and place in the US (got no view on other areas)

The two most catastrophic events in all of history that I see with the worst possible results from idiots just wanting what they want or wanting to make a buck are the legalization of weed AND the ability to grow it INDOORS, an this whole AI Fiasco driven by big money hungry companies invading every corner of our lives already to be the first and fastest one to bring us death...when they can't even make their main products something people want to even use anymore, forget actually need.

Sorry...I know I go extreme on these subjects...but i'm front row for both of them, AI from my life in programming (being rusty at code doesnt change the way you see how people will use it--the same way you would if you didnt care about them for spit), believe me that I care...but my imagination if I didnt is the most terrifying reality you could ever envision, and I knows it's theirs because I watch it happening

They're not training AI for anything we see everyday, they're training it on us as people...so it can determine by human reaction who is acting what way and our mentality at the moment when we speak...this art crap and machine learning is so far beyond their interest its almost as embarrassing as thinking the presidential election here made a difference. What we see isnt even on the same stage as what they're really planning...regardless of exactly what that might be it certainly isnt going to be for the people because they don't care in the least...just sheep herders for a clueless flock heading toward the slaughterhouse lmao.

I'm done...I think phew. Enjoy my shared nightmares everyone 🍾

Asking me to be silent or saying i'm going off the rocker on a subject doesnt do much...i'm totally and fully aware as I do it. Its raw and its real...nothing I can do to stop it except spit it right on out 🤷‍♂️

The real thing that should be on your mind is why...why am I so vehemently aggressive on these subjects, what could have caused such bad triggers to simple conversation topics. I must have been deep in some place of my mind for years on end ;)

Reality unfortunately...directly around me.

I don't wage war on topics for a rise or as a popularity pissing contest. I only take a stand like this after seeing hell with my own two eyes. It can't be silenced.

I apologize for ruining your conversation...really I do. It wasnt my intention.

I thought GTA V looked good. It also ran well on very modest hardware of the time. Good is not the same as photorealistic though. That was what impressed me. Seeing actual gameplay footage with realtime render and player input turned into what was effectively, reality.

It wasn't the only one. I saw a game with forests and nature go from good, to real. Once graphics get to the point of reality, it will be like sound. When was the last time anyone said anything about how speechlike sound was in a game? No one cares anymore because it's simply expected.

Yes, somewhere better than YouTube. Some kid put in the minimum of effort to get a barely passable looking video on YouTube. Despite this minimum of effort, and frequent very bad glitches, the parts that worked well, however few they were, worked so well that it was that generational change we were talking about previously.

I'm not suggesting we use AI to achieve this generational change. I don't even use frame generation because it often creates artifacting, and I find that worse than dropping below whatever magic number people think they need to see on their FPS counter to make a game playable.

I wasn't doing that. You just missed my point, and focused on mostly irrelevant use of AI on a video.

So, after all that, what was my point?

TLDR: There is still room to improve visuals from good to realistic.

Speaking of generational change, I remember back with analog and digital TV, and VHS to DVD. Both were impressive. Analog had frequent noise, and was also generally 4:3, while the new digital formats were widescreen, usually 16:9 or close to it. TV sizes were smaller then too. So analog to digital was impressive to me.

Then we had plasma, LCD and large 50"+ panels, and they improved greatly over CRT in some things, notably size. You didn't find large CRTs. Most large TVs before that were terrible rear projection. So that impressed me too. Bluray, 1080p, was also launched around the same time, and that was an impressive jump from DVD 480 to BD 1080.

Then we got 4k, and plasma went away, kind of replaced by OLED, but not really, since it has its own problems, including dimming and burn-in. When I saw 4k compared to 1080p, I wasn't that impressed. If I looked closely, sure, I could see the differences, but 1080p was so good, that 4k was pretty meh in comparison. We are at this point in gaming too. Generations are better sure, but previous generations were so good, that the new stuff does not have that wow factor.

And that's what I'm talking about! Can you believe that there are people expecting Visual novels to be done in 4K?

Same with frame rates. Nobody can see a difference between 30 fps and 60 fps UNLESS you told them previously. In fact, the human eye is so imperfect that 24 fps is enough. The only time you can notice it is if it's animation and some of the frames are not perfectly drawn.

Very interesting post for someone like me who I never has never seen CRT monitor let alone used one. :) (Same goes for VHS or along TV)

I always wanted 32 inch 4K OLED monitor but I only have 27inch 1080p IPS one at the moment.

(this model: EX2710S | MOBIUZ 1ms 27" 165Hz IPS Gaming Monitor)

Are you saying that I'm not missing much in visual quality when gaming from 70-80cm away (2.5 feet) on my 1080p monitor? :) I know that games are much harder to run in 4K but maybe it's worth it if picture is amazing. Or would a nice 1440p LCD be a good compromise?

I was mostly talking about TVs, and movies, rather than gaming. That said, I don't think the visual quality is worth the money going from 1080p to 4k for gaming. The fact that a lot of movies are shot in 2k and upscaled is part of the reason it is so underwhelming for movies.

If you can use someone else's setup and try it out for yourself, then that would be the best way to tell if it was worth your money. As an example, I once spent several weeks over the holidays with my cousins that had a bigger TV than me playing games. I think theirs was 48cm and coming back to my 34cm TV, it felt tiny when I got back. Meanwhile, I was perfectly happy with it before that.
I never has never seen CRT monitor let alone used one. :)
For me, the biggest loss was the lack of light gun support. I had a lot of fun with those games on PS1/2. There is also no input lag on CRT, and infinite frame rate. The problem is that it wasn't until the very end of life that small 16:9 Sony screens had the color quality, and price to match, to make them viable in today's environment. Then LCD got so much cheaper, that everyone forgot about everything else, and CRT will never be made again.

Thanks a lot for your detailed explanation. :) (y) I hardly ever watch movies and when I do it’s always on my PC monitor as I don’t have a TV in my room.

I once tried a 32 inch 1080p monitor and I didn’t like it, it was big and blurry. I found that I was moving my head way too much when playing faster FPS games, it made me dizzy almost like I was sick from a long car drive.

If you can use someone else's setup and try it out for yourself
Sadly all my friends have gaming laptops and they don't use external screens.

Most likely I’ll stick with what I got at the moment until I get something better from my parents in a few years time. I hate silver shine (glow) I get on my current monitor especially in dark games.

For me, the biggest loss was the lack of light gun support. I had a lot of fun with those games on PS1/2.
I would love to try a light gun, sounds really fun. But I need a CRT monitor or a TV for that and I have no idea where to get it cheap.

My dad has some very old photos (early 1990s?) of him and his friends playing Virtua Cop on an arcade cabinet in a shopping mall. :D

Jesus Christ, I'm really ancient if the photos from the 1990s are very old...
Sorry, I was just speaking from my point of view. Most likely that the photos are from 1994-1995 and that's like 15 years before I was born. 🤷‍♂️

Age is just a number anyway. :) It's cool to see so many of you still playing games well into your 20s or 30s.

*Thanks to Besi for introducing me to this cool band. 💙 😊
