AOL (the actual classic AOL that came on CD), was likely the height of the internet...after that it was all downhill :LOL:

Gala reminds me of AOL in a way, except it also has the convenient 'mailbox' affect like FB where users prefer to talk live but if one leaves they can catch up later. So does discord, but discord handles it terribly as far as backtracking conversation and such due to being web based and not software based.

This is probably more due to the crowd here than the actual site in truth.

For me, going from dial-up to HFC was a big improvement. So I have no fond memories of dial-up. Do you even have a modem for dial-up? I don't. I don't have a phone line capable of dialing either. All phone lines are VOIP here now anyway.

Now they're finally making affordable gigabit internet, and the value proposition seems to be 500Mb for about $40 USD. They're also bringing in 2Gb, but I don't have an ethernet controller capable of 2.5Gb, so not going to bother.

My free 4G has been having reception issues recently, so I paid for internet for the first time in years. Currently on an early gigabit plan, that will revert to 500Mb next month. If my 4G is working properly after that, I'll go back to that, otherwise I'll find a 500Mb plan.

Actually yes...I have windows 98 running...or did before here. That PC turned into a mud bicket when the dust was moisturized, if it ever runs again it'll take me months of scraping with a q -tip and likely still die much sooner, my XP I jacked up to the max has one as well.... this dump 'had' a phone line until I realized my heater thermostat not only had remote control through dial up but was wired for it as well...then I ripped it out :LOL: (this was after my landlord failed to do shit)
