Sega continues to compete against Nintendo.
I don't like to side with this companies most of the time, but the tweet (or is now a Xeet?) is not very accurate, which is strange since all one has to do is read the article that is linked.
The "tweet" says " rare video games", and the article says "prototypes of games" and the reality is that a companies does have the right to not sell prototypes if they don't want to, that's why the majority of prototypes you find online are free.
And the title of the article says "dev kits".
The guy might have bought them, but i'm sure it wasn't legit.

You can buy Oculus dev kits legitimately 🤷‍♂️ you could also buy PSP ones at one point but I think they pulled them after awhile.

sorry but for me there're many wrong or at least odd assumptions.

rare video games can mean both about consoles/handhelds or the games.
if you saw/read the articles there are pics of both consoles(dev kits or not) maybe with old firmwares
and prototypes or unfinished games.
These can easily be classified as rare.

Idk what kind of prototypes you referred to and that are free. I never saw anyone selling for free if it's
game related.
Now if you are referring to prototypes being sold for the company that produced them,
it's completely different talking. As the company would be selling unfinished products.
though some may say some games do like put on sale before it was developed satisfactorily.

The guy may or may not have bought them Letigimaly.
My guess sega was the faulty one here. Probably they didnt realiaze their mistake
until they saw the sale annoucement.

On the other hand
They may have hired someone one to disposal read destroy them
but someone instead sold to the guy. In this case he bought some "stolen" products.
But as the police, sega etc didnt clarify it neither stated as stolen or robbery it's likely
I said above the messed up and trying to fix it with ducth tape.

I've CPUs ES Confidential.
If someone signed a confidentiality agreement in which he agreed not to sell them, that's not my problem. Let them take him to court. I bought them legally.

And, if they didn't agree with that, the logical thing would be to report him to a judge, not send police to his house as if he were a criminal and steal everything to possibly destroy it.

Just one more thing may be interesting pointing out.

There are places that garbarge are still cosidered a private thing so nobody can freely
poke around or taking anything they may think interesting or worthy.
e.g Japan

And there are others that once put outside your residence is only garbage.
If someone throw out and old tv broken or not, another could take it home
and try to fix it.

Its illegal to go through someones trash here...invasion of privacy, the police would need to wait until it reaches the city dump, even a garbage man can get in trouble for not making sure it reaches the destination untouched. Not like anyone cares or abides by it...but by law it is.

Just as an example, I put a dresser outside my unti and my landlord had them trash it...they do it all the time here like they have the right--they do not.

Sure.
I was making the distinction between prototype and dev kits as opposed to games that Sega delisted.

Game prototype, not hardware.
You can find game prototype online if you look for them, which are free to download.

This debate is giving me a headache...we're clueless so we really cant speak, god only knows who or what went on.

We can't even pretend gamers can't do the wrong shit as we all torrent, pirate, or emulate when we really need to if we want to play something  and we're a pretty decent group of gamers in my eyes...I'm sure their are real black markets and shit for stuff like this so you never know.

In example, landlords are usually in the wrong--particularly with big apartment complexes, but the shit that I hear in my tenants group from tenants is asanine, the landlords are wrong because they have the power in these situatuons...but the tenants can be just as bad and likely drove them too it.

Mine is an exception...guy is truly just a lazy fucking dirtbag who was born into money and couldnt care less...but the fact remains I've had to slap tenants straight almost as often as defend them to try and prevent the cycle from repeating by them being idiots.

So basically people do dumb shit and companies or other people react, without the details we can never know if they were burying sega in silence and they had no choice. This is entirely different from Ubisofts clear idiocy...and without the story from the sources we're just stabbing at the wind like ignorant children.

Game prototype, not hardware.
You can find game prototype online if you look for them, which are free to download.
that doesnt clarify much.
You can also find completed/finished games for free online even ones that shouldnt be put for free ;)
some prototypes are from defuncted companies, abandonwares, they dont have the license to sell them
anymore the list goes on.
So above case are more common therefore free.

On the other hand
o finding them to sale for real money maybe only special case as for cartridges etc
and being sold by collectors.
