Yes, that another negative side of this way of dropping keys ... :(
Well.. To think on the bright side that penalty gives those who haven't gotten a key here a chance if a drop were to happen within that time frame so I'm alright with that :giggle:

Yes, it is a plus you can only claim one time the same game on Steam. hah!
If mass claim is possible then the games on 1 list will go to just 1 person.. Perhaps even a Sinkmole Ninja Turtle :ROFLMAO:

No, that is not true. If the key is already claimed then you get the penalty too. And if you claim a key the penalty gets postponed.
So (I think) you can claim 30 keys in one minute, but only try for 6 or so when they do not activate.
The person who claimed the most keys (that would be Nothing to see here!) gets the least penalties ...
And others who claim nothing get the penalties (like Jer7cho) ...
Still like this method of dropping keys ? ;)

Oh is that true? Learnt something new.(y) I don't have that many keys myself to claim and activate so many games at once so I hardly hit those numbers even the activation penalty. That said we have no choice if the penalty hits but gotten nothing out of the list. Just have to try harder next time. :ROFLMAO:

Well if bots are active they can claim all the games on 1 list. As long as the games are all unique.
And if the bots serve different Steam accounts there is nothing to stop them from claiming the same game (with different keys) on different accounts. :(

I'm not sure about 30, I thought Steam's limit for successful activations is around 20 per hour, and definitely 10 for unsuccessful activations (used keys, invalid keys, already own the game).

One important thing to bear in mind: the one hour timer starts when you activate the first key, not when you get a "too many attempts" message. So if you try 8 keys at 08:30, then try 3 more at 08:50 and get blocked from trying on the last one, you will be able to activate keys again at 09:30 and not have to wait until 09:50.

Thanks FreaKill for the clarification, I was only taking a guess. I am sure your numbers are more accurate.

Informational indeed! But it seems like I just hit 6 keys (all duplicates) and the 7th tells me too many attempts.
My previous hits are like XX1 XXX XXX A (X meaning hitting duplicates, 1 is successful activation, A is too many attempts). Not sure if successful activation actually resets the too many attempts counter or not.

I don't like the way Steam handles key activation attempts. What is the point in blocking when the key is legit but used?
It is not as if you are just fishing for a good key code.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't. My guess is successful activations just mix with unsuccessful ones and you get locked out after 10-20 tries, depending on how many of your keys work, but I never had a big enough pile of new keys to test that thoroughly.

You're welcome. Unless Steam changes something (which can happen at any time without warning), the 10 unsuccessful attempts per hour is a hard limit that you can easily test yourself with even just one key :)
I recently noticed that it feel like an hour limit, so I tested the timing myself.

Actually I think that's exactly the point - if your bot has all the games already it could theoretically generate unused keys.
Imagine there's no activation limit and a bot just chugs away without ever stopping, it should get caught eventually, but in the mean time an unknown quantity of legit keys can get compromised. With a limit of 10 attempts per hour instead of thousands that a bot would do if allowed, any potential damage is drastically lower and trying to generate keys becomes too slow and unprofitable for anyone to bother with.

Sorry you misunderstand. I mean the bot is testing only keys that are legitimate. Maybe they are already activated, but who cares, no harm done.
So if the bot is trying keys that are NOT good keys (or were not legitimate keys) it should get blocked after a few attempts.
For example if somebody publishes a list of 20 keys that are good and you are late to the party, you will always be blocked by Steam. But what is the point, the keys were ok, only now used by other people.

Yeah I get you. And like I said that's just a theory I came up with, I'm sure someone more knowledgeable could poke serious holes in it. Perhaps the real answer is something more prosaic, like it's a legacy restriction, originally put in to prevent servers from overloading and nobody changes it these days because a little bit of inconvenience to some users is not a sufficient reason to put in the work into overhauling the system.
