I'm not good at technical stuff, would it be okay (forum burden-wise) if people first posted the code as a picture + puzzle and then once somebody says the key is used already, OP would edit their post - delete the picture and just post the plain Steam code? It might be a good middle ground I think, make the work for bots as hard as possible, but at the end of the day don't burden the forum storage too much cause picture gets deleted?

Yup, if users are fine with a little bit of extra maintenance, deleting & replacing the key image with text, after the key was claimed, is perfect to avoid accumulation of dead-weight data in storage.

I'd say several automated scripts are regularly sniffing out this page and are automatically trying to apply the code to their assigned account.

For my last 2 posts, I noticed a "user" (totally not a bot come on people) just refreshing this thread on the online member list along with a Guest and wanted to see if they would say anything at all, but nope.

So yeah, bots abound, might just start sending it the codes in a private convo so it has no competitors.

Someone has to feed the robots.

So what was the code? I started off with the combination of 2, 3, 7 (the official l33t number "T") and 8 in the middle.
Tried all possible combinations (383, 282, 283, 382, 787, 782 and so on), was also going to try 1 for T but ran out of activation attempts.

UPD. Oh, I think I overthought it way too far ahead (for some reason I figured all three are supposed to be digits )

I can't confirm anyone actually using this, but I've heard some nutters also fishing for the pictures on giveaway threads and feeding them to their OCR software (which frankly sounds to me like an absolute overkill, but who knows... Some giveaways might just be too good to miss the opportunity to be the first who claims them). And if the text is readable enough, they end up with the same clear to use line of text.

I was having in my mind somethig like the attached image (i.e. a combination of a picture and a low-contrast, small size italic font, with some symbols obscured behind a simple puzzle)
