I have NEVER had luck with dskchk ..if I need to use it then the drive is prolly dead/dying which sux.
I clone drives using Macrium Reflect and even on my 3rd gen i7 it happens pretty quickly. Never fast enough while you're waiting tho, right? lol
Disk check sucks but Macrium Reflect is supposed to be the best, I wasn't going to buy something I was trying to improve upon.
As for Chkdsk, i was just using that to double check since I haven't implemented a verification process after the entire write and its alot of important data...not to mention I had just tweaked it to copy directly from one partition to another without using any actual storage space after not touching it for a long time. I'm not perfect and mistakes can happen, especially when your rusty and haven't touched the code in a while.
I'm curious, when you say quickly, what size drive are we talking and how long does it take?
There is a grand canyon of a difference between a 500
GB SSD (or any SSD for that matter) and an 8
TB Mechanical NAS Drive partition to a 12TB Server Drive partition
I can clone a TB in an hour tops, usually not even. I run it on 500GB partitions for test runs lol.
There is also a big difference is your cloning a Physical Drive (directly using the device is much faster) or just a single partition...plus I was doing this is windows, not recovery mode like you would need to do if you were cloning your physical OS disk (usually the case)
Interesting fact on that one, during the clone process I actually checked the total IO read/writes for all programs and iCUE had written to the disk more times than my program, which was writing in TB in 16MB buffers. When i killed it ad its services everything wet alot faster.
Note to self, stop iCUE from writing to my SSDs all day and night
I'm not trying to compete with a major company like Macrium when I ask...I'm really curious how long it takes for how large of a drive (or partition if it does that)...if I can't make mine fast enough eventually--I might need to invest in it.
I do this shit
alot lol....and no, watching the clock is the most painful wait ever, unfortunately since it my own program, I need to do that just to see if it has been or can be improved lol. Sucks.
I couldnt highlight it to reply but my partner plays a game like Lines on android (that you linked to steam for).. I dont get why. I watch the game play and think its mind-numbing lol .. however I certainly know someone who'll like this game

so thanks!
Reminded me of time wasting phone apps, and I have a friend who loves them too...so I figured it was worth sharing...not exactly my thing either
