Out of all the things you were "forced" to "learn" back in school (from elementary to high school, and possibly beyond), how much do you actually remember?
Sure, the concepts of math and how to properly use grammar is hard coded into your brain now, but geography, history, the difference between various forms of literature.... That's all gone.
I mean... What's the point of learning in what century some random person discovered a random place/thing, and when are you gonna find a use for that knowledge?
Never have I found any situation where remembering how 'Napoleon defeated Mao Zedong at the borders between Timbuktu and Brazil by firing forks out of a slingshot' was of any use to me. Such a waste of brain-space...
