Taking a second look at things (honestly, I find it odd that I didn't even mentally register the presence of the name "Ron Perlman" when doing my pre-quiz research...), I find the following info notable when googling the hint once more:

Both of these, of course, have different sources, and anything found on the internet should not be immediately taken as concrete facts.
Neither actually provides sufficient info to settle this though, as the first one (Doug Jones) states "creature" and not "actor", while the second one (Ron Perlman) is mentioned with a plural prefix, indicating that he isn't the #1 favorite actor of Toro. (Please excuse my crude editing of the screenshots of the search results of the internet of the..... right....)
Either way.... if going by the hint alone, Ron Perlman is clearly a wrong answer, per indication of the above info.
Of the previously mentioned titles...
- Doug Jones (Mimic, Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, The Strain, Crimson Peak, The Shape of Water)
..."The Strain" can be excluded, as it's a serie and
not a movie.
The rest on the list are (live-action) movies.
For Perlman...
- Ron Perlman (Cronos, Blade II, Hellboy, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Pacific Rim, Book of Life, Trollhunters, Pinocchio, Nightmare Alley)
...I'd say Trollhunters can be excluded, both for being animated,
and for being a serie.
Whether or not Nightmare Alley should be excluded or not, due to not having been released yet, could well be discussed.
"The Book of Life" is also an
animated movie, and it's inclusion in "acting" as opposed to "voice acting".... I'd say (per specifications in the question) this one should be excluded.
"Pinocchio" is an
animated move, and also not yet released, so I'd say exclude this one too.
Totaling it up, that leaves 6
released live-action movies for Doug Jones, and 5
released live-action movies for Ron Perlman.
Edit: And at this point, I'm starting to question myself on whether I'm spending too much time on this one...
